It would be nice if Ayu tried to make a move to the English speaking market. I would personally love it, as long as she has creative control over what she does. If she doesn't come over to the US market, at least perform some shows here! xD Hit up the big cities, LA, NYC, Las Vegas & Dallas. ^^ It would be nice to have at least that~

I hope that if she does come here to perform exclusively her Japanese stuff that she doesn't go to like anime conventions (
). Btw, did BoA and Utada try that road?

I think Ayumi would do TERRIBLY if she came to the US.
She's the QUEEN of J-POP for a reason. I think she shouldn't mess with a good thing and keep releasing in Japan! She's amazing the way she is, why tarnish that reputation?

[Under several circumstances, its in fact the name «Ayumi Hamasaki» that have been mentioned and sought after, both during interviews and live presentations, to Utada's and BoA's frustration.]
I love that xD |

Now that we know the source is pretty much crap though, I doubt that statement was true either.

Very much true. Utada was asked about Ayumi this year at the Sephrora event in NY (i was there), The radio host asked if she would want to collabarate with anybody and someone yelled Ayumi which led to excited cheers by the crowd, which led to a bit conversation about Ayumi. And back in 2004 during the Exodus era on a radio show (the clips on youtube) a listener called in to ask if she would bring Ayumi to the US too. BoA I can't say though i wouldn't be surprised.

I think that an anime tie would be big, but it'd have to be the adaptation of a very famous manga or something. But I don't think it'd be necessarily degrading for Ayu for perform at an anime convention. Pssh. Nana Kitade did it and I respect her very much. Gackt also did it, as did Miyavi, Sugizo and Yoshiki when they did the S.K.I.N. gig.
![]() But whatever, it's probably not true considering it came from a Chinese source. Also there's the annoying habit of ayu.no bringing in false info... |

of course it would be fun for us, the fans, but if Utada can't make it, Ayu doesn't stand much of a chance. yes, Ayu is waaaaay more interesting as far as style, videos, and personality (on and off screen) go, but Utada has no Japanese accent and plays according to the rules; she pipes out just the kind of commercialized nonsense that forms mainstream. Ayu's style just doesn't conform that way. she WOULD be much better at getting people's attention, though.

I don't think she'd make it here. Maybe I'm being too pessimistic but I strongly feel this way. Of course, a lot of her fans in America like me would support her all the way...but that still amounts to very little fans compared to back in her native country. First things first she'd have to completely get rid of her accent or to the point that there's just a teeny tiny hint of it to gain some acceptance. I don't think that's going to happen...it'd be extremely hard for her to do if she hasn't been speaking it for a while...that goes with any language. avex would no doubt dump a lot of resources into having her infiltrate the American market. At the very least she'd make a stir because she's been dominating in one part of the world...people will let their ears decide though. Some people here made a good point that it'd be degrading to an artist of her caliber...if she comes here I want to see her at least garner as much support as Hikki, whose claim to fame was basically a game song. Ayu does not have anything like that going for her at all, except maybe Inuyasha. I'd say more people played Kingdom Hearts in America than watched Inuyasha or had a memorable experience of Dragonballs. To put it into perspective, her coming here is like putting a featherweight against a heavyweight. Not to say she's any less good, but here's where the term "pound for pound" comes in. The culture here is just totally different. The plus side to this is if she starts learning English people could communicate with her better.
In the end this could be real or it could be fake information. I'm not going to fully believe it until she says something about it...I guess it could only be natural she wants to move on to something new. After all, it's very lonely at the top. Last edited by jimex289; 19th July 2009 at 05:57 AM. |
