I have always been neutral about their marriage: if he makes her happy, I'm okay with it. I suppose if there is no longer any love in their relationship, then she made the decision that she felt was right for her, so I'll support her in that. I can't help but feel a bit sad, though. He seemed to make her happy.

I think Ayu and mannie had lots of difficulties laid out against them. Maybe now is just not the time for Ayu to be married but 5, 10 years on who knows?
It doesn't sound like anything suspicious, after all, often the truth is much more dull than our imaginations! Sounds like theres no hard feelings, regardless. I hope they remain friends for a long time...the possibilities if she had moved to the USA....! I send my support to Mannie, too. After all, he would be hurting too. This is not a time to gloat....how insensitive.....you call yourself a fan when you laugh at Ayu's decision to put country before self?

It makes me think about Brillante lyrics, even though it was written quite some time ago.

I'm pretty sure she has felt like this for some time and she just wanted to think it over before announcing it.

TA - To my overseas fans,
I wish to inform you theat i, ayumi hamasaki, instructes my lawyer to file for divorce on my behalf in the united states today. At the time of our marriage, my husband and I decided to live in the united states. However, approximatetely two months later eastern japan was struck by a huge earthquake. As a result of this tragedy, I felt an overwhelming need to stay in my home county, and was forced to leave my husband alone for a long time. My husband and I have made every effort to reach a compromise; However, as time has passed we have grown apart. I no longer feel the same desire to move to the united states. Instead I feel that I must ask myself what I can continue to do for my country, here in japan. This has eclipsed the future I had originally envisaged with my husband, and it is for this reason that I have made this difficult decision. It was with a grateful, but heavy heart that I read all the messages I received form my fans and the press congratulating me on my 1st wedding anniversary at the beginning of this month. It was then that I realized I had to face up to the inevitable truth that I had been avoiding. At present, my husband is in los angeles pursuing his career as an actor in Hollywood. I would ask that my fans to respect his privacy and refrain from sending him messages or contacting him to ask for comement. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

[edit]^Thank you for the English translation. It really is sad, and I'm sure this was not an easy decision for Ayu to make.
I'm so sad and shocked by the news of this. It breaks my heart to think that they couldn't be together or try to make it work. But alas, it is Ayu and Mannie's decision. And in all honesty, right now, some of you 'fans' are making me feel ashamed to be put into the same category as you. You laugh, celebrate and even bash Mannie when we obviously do not know what is going on inside the relationship. It has to be hard to go on in a marriage when you never get to see, hold, kiss and just love the person you are committed to. To these 'fans' I suggest you step back and take a look at this from BOTH of their points of view. How would you feel if you were in a similar situation, and you told the people you considered to be the closest to you about it and they did nothing but laugh, bash your ex (whom you may still love dearly) and tell you 'I told you so'? Wouldn't feel too great would you? Please, put yourself in their shoes right now and stop trying to be, well, a jerkface. I wish Ayu and Mannie nothing but luck and they both have my support. They must both be going through some very high emotions at this time.

Well that's kinda depressing, I was hoping they would stay together. Long distance relationships can be tough though, so I understand her reasoning
