Someone's sources sound like they have no idea what theyre talking about. Ayu's staff was tweeting about her shooting in Tokyo the day after she left Hawaii. I think she was being honest about her lawyer handling it. After all, japanese news reports according to some japanese fans said she never filed the marriage in Japan and that would have annulled the marriage after 3 months. Any paper work the U.S. requires after that is only a technicality and may not even be necessary. The press release might just be what her and Avex see as the best way of breaking the news to the press and her fans.

Why would not filing for marriage in Japan annul a marriage filed for in the US?

^ it doesnt matter if she is not legally married in Japan, she is still legally married in the US, which means Mannie can not meet anyone or county his life until they are divorced in the US.. (relationship wise...)

Ooookay, obviously I'm late here (whoa 11 pages already) so my thoughts/opinions may have been repeated several times already, but...

Totally surprised that the marriage lasted only a year. I was thinking at least 2. But I also had a strong feeling it would end in divorce eventually. Like others have said, she only knew Mannie for a few months, and then all of a sudden rushes into marriage? Especially to someone who lived thousands of miles away? (Will get to this in a bit) I strongly feel that she was maybe feeling pressured to get married because of her age (32). I think the Sweet Season PV reflects that... I also remember her saying in twitter or something that she puts her work first, then family, and that Mannie understood this. I'm sorry, but I've just seen way too much in my life the negative effects of not putting family first I totally understand her reasons for living her life like this, but it really made me doubt that marriage could survive with these circumstances. Also, the distance factor was a huuuuuge issue. Again, long-distance relationships are so difficult to manage. Especially if you live an ocean apart! And it always seemed as though Ayu/Mannie were busy, when would they have time to see each other? I'll probably get crap for this, but I don't believe Ayu when she said that the earthquake in Japan changed her mind about moving to the US. I feel that she's always loved living in Japan and gets very homesick when she's away, and really didn't have any solid plans for moving. I wonder if she was infatuated with Mannie and the feelings eventually faded and reality struck hard when asking the question "how will this marriage seriously/logistically work out?" I'm glad that she didn't have a kid with Mannie. I can't imagine being the child of divorced parents who live in two different countries thousands of miles apart... how awful that would be It's hard enough knowing families with kids that have to fly from halfway across the country to see a parent.

Well, I'm really sad to hear the news, to say the least. I really like Mannie and was really rooting for the both of them. But, of course, really worried about how it would all work out, and it turns out it didn't. Sigh.

I think they meant it annuls the marriage in Japan or something.

I don't know why it makes a difference. Mannie still needs a divorce here. I don't think they can get an annulment...remember Ross and Rachel?

Japanese law annuls marriages of it's citizens after 3 months if papers are not filed with the Japanese government. And reading that part of their law it does not say the annullment is only good in Japan, it means it is annulled. So if the japanese news sources stating that were correct then it has been over since April 1st(fitting date for a Vegas marriaage to end) So if those reports are correct then there is no need for a lawyer, she already ended it long ago and just didnt want to talk about it til now. Or is doing it as some technicality from the U.S. government not acknowledging Japan's law when they should have.

Considering the kindhearted person she is I wouldn't doubt what she said about the earthquake affecting her decision. She didn't want to leave her fans or abandon her country for the matter.

Not sure what to think about this, but it seems that it is something Ayu had been trying to deal with for a while.

Ayu will probably be fine after all of this settles down, but I hope people listen to Ayu and avoid asking Mannie about this.

One country's laws cannot override another country's laws on their soil. Japan can't invalidate a legal document that was created and granted in the US. Japan won't recognize the marriage, but the US does. That's why it needs to be taken care of in the US, not Japan. Japan can't do anything about a legal act that occurred on foreign soil; that's why the law doesn't say anything about other countries.

I'm surprised you live in this world thinking countries hold such power over each other. The world would be a hot mess if this were true.

Allied countries do usually recognize each others laws, its not that uncommon. Thats why criminals from other countries still get arrested if theyre caught away from home.

Fugitives and the laws of extradition are a completely separate matter. Even then, the home country does not prosecute the fugitive if the crime was commited on foreign soil; the fugitive is extradited (sent back) and tried by the country where the crime occurred. And it's never a simple matter.

Do you think someone from Japan flies over to the US and rips up the marriage license? Or deletes the marriage file from some super computer that houses every marriage made by every allied country? And then the officials in the US are just like, "huh, that marriage license suddenly vanished. I guess Japan annulled it. Or maybe it was Italy? I dunno, some other country did something. When's lunch?"

I really, really hope that some delusional and obsessive fans don't get excited and think they now have a chance to woo and court Ayu.

Note to Mr J-hobo: I knew your crazy ass would show up here. Do us a favor and just STFU and move on with your live. Noone gives a **** if you were right. I knew you would come in here with your conceited self righteous ****ing attitude and you need to just knock it the **** off. Noone cares if you're right and I hope you know that the way you and Jorge treated her JUST because she married someone she loved could have contributed to many relationship problems. Hope you enjoy having that on your conscience *******. Also you give real christians who aren't ****ing crazy a bad name.

I'll leave that to the crazy people who thought Mannie was good for her. 1/3 of my prayers were answered exact to the day when I was told I would see it happen. There is nothing anyone can say to change that.

^Yes, yes they can. You're a sick, twisted, foul little man who needs professional help.

This is why I am no longer religious.
