I didnt really...think much of it honestly. I started with the MY STORY album. She's the very first J-pop artiste I know but I thought her music was really nice because back then, there was MY STORY CM playing on TV along with some random J-pop compilation that had Inspire on. So I was seeing her double the time. I mean, when it jsut started, she didnt have any high notes or yelling vocals that blew me away but I thought her voice really suited to the music..and it was very versatile. At times really emotional too..esp from the first concert I watched which was CDL 0405.

I loved it! I know many think her voice is nasaly and annoying, but I didn't think so! I thought she sounded really cute! I first heard her in 2002.

I admit when I first heard it I thought it was subpar. More so "screechy." (first song I heard was Dearest) But I quickly came to enjoy it anyway, of course.

my first ayu song is depend on you...back then her voice is still very pitchy and high...but the song is so catchy like heaven! So i tried more...

The first song I really heard was glitter, but I was more focused on her hair, so I didn't really pain attention to her voice

So I'll go with the 2nd song I heard which was Endless sorrow and I thought...what a beautiful voice

I don't remember O.O My first song was evolution, and others were like SEASONS, SURREAL, Who..., Endless sorrow... I really don't remember! I paid more attention to her music, because it sounded so alien, so different from everything I've heard before. I remember I was so surprised that her music contained lots of different instruments and effects and also great guitar solos

I know I hated it, I thought its annoying (my first tracks were from Duty and I am...) but songs were too haunting for me so I just came back and become secret fan. I didnt want to admit at first I love this horrible voice LOL. Im a stan now and I love when she's off key

It was pretty much like this for me too. The first songs were M and Dearest iirc and I pretty much adored everything about those songs, including her vocals, but I remember introducing the songs to my friend and being like "umm... don't let her voice bother you here.......

" lol So I guess her vocals sounded really different from other artists back then to me, now after getting used to them I can't really hear the strangeness even if I try. Must be a language thing too.

I've started with A song for XX listening so at first I liked the songs but didn't focus much on her voice..Honestly I found it pretty childish and squeaky sometimes at beginning..Then I believe she improved very much and her voice sounds really good to me now.

I was Christmas time when I heard it, so I played that song often that time. It's really lovely and catchy for me

My first song was HOPE or PAIN. What a unique song to get into Ayu with. Her voice was really pretty in that track too.

I first heard her voice with "is this LOVE?" and thought she sounded great with the rawness and emotion. Eager to listen to more, I found "evolution" and thought what a different and squeaky voice! I left Ayu's music for a time until I felt brave enough to listen again. This time I looked at lyric translations to better understand what she was singing about. I have always felt that Ayu sings with emotion rather than technique and that's why I love her music. The rest is history

I first heard her voice with boys & girls, I thought her voice was great, too high but sounded great to me. Then I heard Ourselves and that´s when I felt in love with her music.

I honestly didn't start thinking about her voice until long after I first heard it, so I really don't remember what my first impression was.

Haha... first song I heard from Ayu was "poker face" and I absolutely hated her voice. Could not believe that people could tolerate that kind of singing. My friends had me listen to a couple other songs; one was evolution, but I STILL hated her voice.

I eventually got used to it ;D
