Part of me don't care about how many album she can sell, how many records she can hold/break. But another part of me is worried because poor sales can also lead to bad situation like hiatus (I really hope it's not like that). I'm happy when she still get #1. Congratulation, Ayu. LOVE again deserves it.
What can a tiny fan here hope? Ayu, I want and still want to listen to your songs. Okay, why I sound like she will end her career soon?

Hamasaki Ayumi’s latest album tops Oricon weekly album chart

Hamasaki Ayumi’s 14th original album, “LOVE again” (released February 8th), has sold 53,000 copies in its first week and has topped Oricon’s weekly album chart for February 18th.

Since debuting 14 years and 10 months ago, 20 of Hamasaki’s albums have topped the Oricon charts, surpassing B’z who achieved this feat over 17 years and 10 months.

Hamasaki is also the 3rd artist with 20 number 1 albums following Matsutoya Yumi (November 16, 1998 / “Neue Musik“) and B’z (July 10, 2006 / “MONSTER“). Among solo artists, she has reduced the gap between Matsutoya Yumi (21 albums) to 1 album.

“I used all my strength for this album. I wanted many people to listen to it, so I’m very happy that many people have supported it. Thank you very much,” she expressed. “Being able to set this record, this is all thanks to the fans who have supported me. Since this year marks my 15th year, I want to make this a year that I will be able to create wonderful memories with everyone.”

“LOVE again” was the 4th part of Hamasaki’s 5-month consecutive release project to commemorate her 15th anniversary on April 8th. It included tracks from her mini-albums, “LOVE” (released November 8th) and “again” (December 8th), as well as brand new songs and 14 music videos.

what you said doesnt make sense, since any other album had its previous singles released... it's stupid that even now people still don't get that "again" and "LOVE" were supposed to be singles, be were released as mini-albums so ayu wouldnt lose her strike

The promotion isn't bad at all, she just needs tv performances

well, hopefully shell release a best 3 with killer promo. 3 billion lives. every single magazine cover... invent some kind of new promo and get her 21 number one to tie... lol

I know everyone likes to blame the lack of promo, just like with Party Queen, but I still don't think that's going to help her much at all at this point in her career. You can shove her down peoples throats all you want, doesn't mean they're going to care.

Actually, due to the lack of promotion, a lot of people don't even know she has a new release out. While promoting probably won't get many new fans, people should at least know she has something coming up.

Why would avex go all out on promo when Ayumi can't even keep fans that follow her closely? Her being in tons of cms and music/variety shows etc won't make her music any less dull. It also doesn't help that she's apparently not on good terms with Music Station/there's potential another FNS 2012 disaster could happen. For the state of Ayu's career right now I think they did decent. The magazine special she had is amazing actually.

I'm more shocked at how her oversea fanbase is faring I still can't believe the LOVE again purchase count couldn't even surpass the LOVE one...

that fact is that avex/ayu doesn't care anymore about her sales and we are in the last place to care about it.

To be completely fair, her songs HAVE been playing in Sukiya, a popular Gyudon chain store, and department stores like Celeo and the like. And she does have almost 1,000,000 followers on Twitter. If even only 25% of them are active accounts that follow her, they know what's going on and they have the decision to choose whether to buy or not.

Oricon does NOT count digital sales, and I have found LOVE Again in Book Off already, a second hand store. So the sales figures dont properly represent whats going on, although even if you calculate digital sales the sales would probably be only 80,000 or so by now...

Ayumi needs to be likeable again. She needs to go on variety shows, interact with people, and make people like her personality again. Honestly, thats the only reason why Rola and them are so popular... she needs people to care about HER, so that they will care about the music again too. Thats why people cared in the first place, because she had a cute personality, cute voice, and cute looks, and she had a troubled past with her family, etc.
