And yet she's managing to get to the top charts while everyone is scraping
by to atleast get top 10. She has 20 years in music.

There's more artist that don't write their music than that do and that are able
to get alot of sales and have good music. Writing music doesn't make you a
singer. A good singer means dancing, acting and most importantly have
singing skills. Ayumi has good writing skills, acting and singing and thats
what makes her an amazing singer.

If you only chose singers who wrote music and lyrics, then you don't have
many to chose from.

Saying that an artist wouldn't have a career if they didn't have people writing for them is a really dumb opinion.

It's not a dump opinion. It's simply the truth. I like Namie, but she never had any singing skills, actually she can't sing at all and her dancing is shit compared to most other popstars who are famous for being great dancers. She's only popular because she has a great team which seems to know how to produce a product people want to buy. That's all.

I wouldn't even go as far as saying Namie is a good singer. As much as I like FEEL it wasn't sung particularly well. She sounded dead over hot beats. It worked for a hot minute until I realized that her voice lacked oomph. Heaven remains unbothered though.
I don't think Ayu's a particularly good singer as well but she does have nice emotion in her voice, something that FEEL lacked. But that Vibrato of Doom though. Hito wahahahahahahahahahaha yume wohhohohhoohhohohohoho. Kyou ga totemohohohohohohohohho. Etc.
If anything, Kumi is the one who's a good singer. She has a great range and an emotional voice.

Saying that, if Namie didn't have people writing for her and thus she wouldn't have a career is iffy, makes sense but there is a 'loophole'. She doesn't create music so if there was no music then there would be nothing for her to sing. Without her team of writers there would be nothing. Nothing. BUT with _genic she picked demos so in the end she doesn't have to have people write for her. People can write things and then she can choose them at her own free will without people like Nao'ymt.

That doesn't make any sense. I thought that acting meant that you're an actress, dancing meant you're a dancer or performer. In that case Adele is nothing but a girl with a microphone on stage.

Yeah, stage presence is more important than acting or dancing skills.

Very interesting discussion. I wonder why ayu doesn.t have the confidence to bring CREA back. For example, A ONE would have been a good oportunity to do this ^return to roots^ she was talking about in that magazine. Still, A ONE holds a special place in my heart.

So you'd rather call her "a girl with a microphone" instead of "a singer" because she doesn't act and dance on stage? That's my point.

Adele I would definitely class as a singer/songwriter because the bulk of her work is singing and writing her own songs. Utada Hikaru I would class as a musician because she writes her own music, songs, and sings.

Ayu and Koda Kumi I think would fall into the singer/songwriter category, as well as the performer category because of the way they deliver their lives.

Namie I would class as a singer/recording artist/performer. She has written a song or 2 in the past but its not her m.o. She is more of a recording artist as she doesn't really have much to do with production other than singing the songs. She has a team that does her producing for her. Many singers work this way and its not a fault.

Yeah, I loved the choreography for Rule.

When it comes to Ayu (and Hikki) I think it always looks good when they add a bit of...arm movements/choreography (not sure what to call it!) to their routines, like Whatever @ Premium Showcase Live or Passion @ Utada United.

It might be simple but it looks very effective!

^We need news to moving on !!

And I prefer an ayuma dancing funny than the dramatic ayuma suffering in the tours.

Now that Yoyogi dates are over and there's still few weeks before Kobe and Yokohama dates, i expect more concrete details about the mini album.

what's up with comparisons again. pointless. Namie's career focused right now, she's doing much, okay, more than Ayu, let's be honest, and that's how she keeps herself relevant. doesn't matter if you like her music or not, she's still relevant. it means something, maybe, it means that she still does have a bunch of management grain in her brain or whatever.

Ayu is laid back, it doesn't make her less of singer/performer, it doesn't make her worse, or Namie worse, but she's laid back with her career and she uses little resources, plus she's conservative, quite, with her releases and music type. and it makes her appeal not-so-much to the young. she hardly even appears in mags, so she's simply not that relevant. her sales are still nice for her zero promotion, in my opinion, due to the huge fanbase.

i kinda agree on that. I can't say though that what Namie does music wise is very innovative, even for her she just rolls with what actually sells today. AND I'M NOT SAYING IT'S BAD. Ayu is into experimenting once in a while but tends to go back to what she's known for. Both of these chicks to me are basically doing the same thing, the only difference that i can see here is in the quality of marketing and side stuff like PVs, covers/packaging. Namie is more around, she even has magazines when she's not releasing anything much or she does CMs. Ayu, if we're lucky, does a couple of mags and an occasional tie in every now and then. The last time she really was going on with the CMs when was that? lol she hasn't been in those for ages! Apart from that one vitamin drink or whatever it was a couple of years ago. Even aid all that i think a lot of it goes down to good old simple luck! It's really difficult to put a finger on what makes artist's career go bam again. *shrugs*

And lol at people arguing who's good singer who's good dancer. You want people who can ACTUALLY SING? Go listen to opera xD You want to listen to music and see someone dance really well? Ever heard of ballet or dancing troupes? xD EXACTLY. Those who can actually sing will have in the past went through professional training, same with dancing.
