The Official Spice Girls Thread
The official thread for discussion of the Spice Girls, as a group and as solo artists! (Although Emma Bunton, Baby Spice, does have her own thread.)
So back in the mid-90's, they were THE explosive girl power pop group, with their hits Wannabe, Spice Up Your Life, 2 Become 1, Say You'll Be There, Stop, Too Much, Vivia Forever, and Goodbye. There was the mature, tomboyish Sporty Spice (Melanie Chisholm); the refined and cool Posh Spice (Victoria Adams, now Victoria Beckham); the sweet, cute Baby Spice (Emma Bunton); the sassy, sexy, brassy Ginger Spice (Geri Halliwell); and the outrageous, wild Scary Spice (Melanie Brown) and her breast implants. Anyway - a few Wikipedia links detailing the group and each girl's life/careers... The Spice Girls Melanie C Geri Halliwell Melanie B Victoria Beckham Emma Bunton And Michelle Stephenson, the original fifth Spice Girl that could've been. Ginger left the group around 1998 or so due to internal conflicts with Scary. Shortly after that, the remaining four girls released their final album, the decidedly urban/R&B-flavored Forever - to little success, and disbanded not too long after. Their legend still lives on, however, around the world, and especially in the UK - where they all still pursue solo careers to varying degrees of success. Feel free to discuss your thoughts on the girls - together and/or solo - in here. Or discuss Emma in her Speshul Thread. (I almost feel obligated to make solo threads for the other four, but... nobody CARES about Mel B, really...)

I was a massive Spice Girls fan during the 90's and I still love all there singles with "2 become 1" being my favourite.
I hope Mel C releases something soon. I'm dying for her music at the moment. I love her songs "I turn to you" and "Never be the same again". I also wish Scary left instead of Ginger.

I got into them a few years ago. Like '04, I think?
Mel C's new album is supposed to be released spring of '07, and I believe Life in Mono has leaked. I downloaded a copy, and I'll be checking shortly to see if it's legit. Geri's apparently done with music, like Victoria. Geri was pretty good, but her singing did suck. I kind of want Mel B to quit while shes ahead too, but L.A. State of Mind wasn't TOO bad. Her voice is hideous, and she's rather embarrassing to listen to, but... okay, she can stop too. Leave the musical stuff to Emma and Mel C. Mel B can go have a baby with Eddie Murphy and name it Murphy Brown.

I only like... Geri Halliwell and Emma Bunton.
Geri Halliwell's melodies are TO-DIE-FOR. They're so catchy you'd just die. I love her songs, even in her major floppage Passion. Emma Bunton is flawless. Nuff said. |

My fav is always Melanie C. I have all her albums, B-Sides,and karaokes I could find. I adore her. Emma is OK but i listened to "Life in Mono" and it'snot as good as her last cd. Melanie keeps getting better, and I hope she can top "Beautiful Intentions"with her 4th cd!

I was absolutely obsessed with the Spice Girls in Elementary School. I still love them today, but I was just crazed over them (as all my other friends were) during the middle/late 90's, when they were still huge. I owned all of the dolls, all three albums, two singles, Spice World (the movie) on both VHS and DVD, a VHS documentary, their Pay-Per-View concert, and went to their concert when it was in my town. It's unfortunate that they just kind of died out as a band after Spice World, because I personally thought that Forever was a superb album. It may have been less pop, and more R&B than Spice and Spice World, but it was great nonetheless. Mel C had been my favorite during the time that I was obsessed with them, but it's Emma now. Her solo stuff kicks ass and her voice isn't bad at all (but neither is Mel C's). I wish that they would release another album or reunite for a Reunion Tour. But that probably won't happen...

There is big talk of a reunion for the Princess Diana memorial.

I was obsessed with the Spice Girls when they were popular, those were the days. *nostalgia*
I still listen to some of Geri Halliwell's stuff like Ride It.

... I'm a Spice Girl fan and I've been one since the late 90's.
Geri was a huge part of my life, and I have her devil/angel logo on my left calf. In recent years she's been acting a little off, so when Geri was on a loooong hiatus in 2002-2003, Geri was replaced with Ayumi (and it's still kinda that way). The Spice Girls rock, so far the only one I have hopes for musically is Emma. One day Geri needs to have a GH w/ DVD, she owes it to her long time fans. On another note, a lot of Spice Girl fans are really defensive to their particular Spice Girl. I really don't know any nice fans either, not saying there isn't any (I'm one!)

I have...
Mel C: Northern Star and Reason Mel B: Hot and L.A. State of Mind Geri: All three albums Emma: Free Me (the U.S. version with the prettier cover) Geri's done making music, she said. Victoria too - they both agreed that there's pretty much a snowball's chance in hell of a Spice Girls reunion. Mel B and Eddie Murphy apparently broke up, but not before he popped a bun in her oven. Mel C's releasing an album in spring, and Emma just put out Life in Mono. Good times.

I was wondering. Lots of people keep saying "Never be the same again" is about homosexuality. Is that right? o_________O

Well... I doubt it. I never thought of it that way, but really, the lyrics moreso imply that it's about two friends who've fallen in love with each other.

Wow, I just read about Mel C on wiki. Damn! I thought she was the biggest flop from Spice Girls. She's done pretty awesome.
Anyone care to upload her newer material (a track or two perhaps?) to give a chance to some people who haven't discovered her music?

If someone doesn't do it by tomorrow afternoon, I can upload a track or two off Reason and Beautiful Intentions (can't wait for the new album). Obviously, I can't do Northern Star since it was sold in the U.S. too, but the other two should be fine - they didn't get released here. DAMN IT.
Unless you already have stuff from Reason?

I have zero stuff. I have never heard of her music on my comp, radio or CD. They played a video by her on TV once, I hated it because her voice sounded terrible to my ears back then. The video looked something like Coldplay's "The Scientist". I don't remember or even noticed the music because of her vocals.
But I'm sure now I'll be kinder to her songs, after hearing all kinds of vocals over the past year. |

Kylie smells like victory as Beckham is knocked off top spot
Kylie Minogue has knocked Victoria Beckham off the top of the charts – but this time the battle centres on smells rather than songs. Kylie took the No.1 spot for her new perfume Darling, while Intimately Her by Victoria Beckham was in second place, high street chain Superdrug said. Jade Goody, Calum Best, J-Lo and Naomi Campbell all scored top ten hits too. The market for celebrity perfumes has grown over the past year, according to fragrance buyer Tim Hughes. He said: 'Five years ago fragrances were all about big beauty houses such as Chanel. The only celebrity fragrances were rather naff but J-Lo changed all that with the launch of her first fragrance.'
