Honestly, I don't think Ayu has any natural talent for dancing. I'm not disputing the fact that she works really, really hard, but...something is always missing from her performances/routines. For me, it really comes down to the little things and the consciousness about what every single part of your body is doing as you perform that separates the gifted dancer from the person that's trying really hard but not everything is clicking.

^"Real me", "Inspire" happened though. But yeah she has a handful of music videos where she actually does routines, even in concerts she's almost never doing anything else rather than flailing around.

ayu's strength is at theatherical performance/acting while singing and now even some acrobatics, rather than dancing except for some routines that are not the hardest. When she is dancing (like in Lelio) it's more for fun like club dancing or some really basic moves. No one should expect her to move it like BoA =P (which is the epitome of dancing) and I know I used an exaggeration.

Peco being her dance choreographer probably didn't help.

But a lot of singers aren't gifted. A singer who can actually dance is quite the exception.

I really like when Ayu dances. T2M, Decision, Until That Day, Game, Real Me, 1LOVE. She is not a good dancer, but she has a unique style that combined with her charisma is good.
Choreographies like Lelio or XOXO don't fit her in my opinion. Although, the performances that i said for example, fit her and she is so sexy with rock style.

I'm not talking about having well-choreographed routines vs. flailing around, I'm saying she doesn't have natural talent for dancing...?

well.... i think it actually is all about well choreographed routines. The question of if she can do one herself is a whole other story, i think that's where talent comes. She can move. I mean when she dances it isn't awkward or stiff. It;s that she doesn't seem to bother anymore.

I feel like you're contradicting yourself and I'm not sure what you're trying to say lol. What I'm saying is that when she performs, no matter how hard she might rehearse or how well-choreographed the routine, the little things stick out to me like a sore thumb. Sickled feet, no extension through her ankles, not paying attention to whether her shoulders are raised or not...etc. Which is why I think she isn't naturally inclined to be a dancer.

what i'm trying to say is that to come up with moves is quite a thing, you need to be talented to come up with something that flow nicely. The technical stuff i think is just learned, now the amount of time you spend doing it makes everything easier. There are people who pick that up faster than others, i guess you can call THAT a natural talent? lol But really if she did more she would pick things up and these little things won't be sticking out anymore, cuz she would get used to it, her body would get used to that..On the other hand look at Britney...She danced like nuts back in the day..and every single concert had her dancing. She did it even before she became famous. Now, though...well i guess wearing those skyscraper heels isn't adding to her being very mobile lol

To be honest i never said much about her dancers, but i have to say to me they, a lot of the time seem out of place, simply because they do their thing and Ayu does her own thing, which is being dramatic lol The only few times that i thought they made sense was when there was actual story going on with them. When not, i think the only time they were necessary was on that a-nation performance of Moments where they formed the wings out of their feather fans. What i'm trying to say by this is that most of the times it seems to me that she doesn't know what is the focus of her performances: dancing or theatre lol

And lol that Sparkle sequence of the concert as a whole is an absolute joke xD Doesn't seem like she's taking it very seriously either.

I would like to remind everyone that she killed the choreography in the Rule PV (in a good way)! There is potential here

I think Ayu can dance well with a well rehearsed choreography routine, but overall she's just not a natural dancer and that's kinda easy to tell... She more than compensates this on other areas though

ayu has even said herself she's not a dancer. Yo-chan even commented once in arena tour MCs that ayu always seems to be a beat ahead of the dancers when doing routines.

i dont think she's a bad dancer. when routines are tailored to her abilities shes actually quite good (like INSPIRE, Real me, talkin' 2 myself, etc) but then sometimes ayu is very...

Hahahaha, she is amazing! I remember she had also a little 'moment' in this performance (Sparkle) that went really, like... really crazy.

Edit: yes, the performance is Sparkle, and it's happennig in the last 30 seconds

And that's why I love that performance so much, specially when she started spinning like crazy at the end
