Ok never mind i got it from the downloads thread. Erm, it wasn't pretty for me at all. Her pitch was everywhere in Mirrorcle World although i thought she rescued the part where she sang wrong lyrics well. It got much better toward the end. SURREAL was, oh man. For the bridge and one of the chorus, she was perpetually in another key and even though she managed to hit the high note for the last chorus, the rest of the line was dead flat. She is really very careless in pitching. You can't just whack the note anyhow. But whatever. She looked great and it's her first tv appearance in a long time. I'll take whatever i can get.

Yes, i agree with pretty much everything you said. I know that we should take her ear in to account too as part of the problem, but at the same time, she has had problems with that ear for almost her whole career and still managed to almost always deliver at least decent vocals. I've really thought for over a year now that something else was going on with her vocals beyond the ear problem - for example, as you mentioned, cutting lines off short should have nothing to do with the ear problem.

The up side of this I guess is that she actually wasn't vocally the worst of the night. Mochida Kaori of Every Little Thing was actually worse - it seems she really and truly just can not sing the old songs anymore. She had surgery on her throat to remove a nodule that had developed, but something must have gone wrong because her voice has never been the same since. Very unfortunate for her, but cheers to her and her bandmate for trying to continue anyways. Globes vocals weren't too hot either.

btw, what happened to TRF? They were scheduled to be on this special and then poof they were gone.

Forgetting lyrics was funny I think her vocals are improved but that's no surprise since she's gone through extensive practice in tour. But it sounds like she's pushing the voice out of herself. It is more rough now than before when she had both ears. I'm sure she's having a tough time trying to find a way to sing as good as before. And I think she did great in this perfomance. Practice makes perfect, she just needs some time.

I didn't even realize she missed a line in the chorus did people started mentioning it. However overall it was a good performance although near the end the performance was slowing going downhill in terms of her voice. She looked amazing in the gold dress.

I'm kinda dissapointed with how ayu sing now...despite being half deaf or anything she shouldn't sounds liek anyhow sings...she really sounds bad now...even ASIA TOUR 2008 doesnt make me super excited because from all the clips we saw...IMO she sounds so off and struggling to scream but its offkey..she still have the 'feel' but her voice needs some touch ups

Personally, I think her singing is just fine. At times, it's OMG EW WTF?! but for the most part, I've been listening to her lives from the last two years via iPod rips and she sounds nice. I don't see what the problem really is.. sure, she isn't as consistent as she usually is, but eh.

Isn't that too harsh? Especially when many people think that often times she lip syncs Step You - it's not like it's a totally off base thought coming out of left field or something.

And from what I can see, Ayu doesn't really seem to care that a bit of her fanbase is slowly slipping away. She still has her core fan base of course, just like all artists do, but I don't think she is really gaining any new fans and has lost touch with the general population. And I don't really see her getting any new fans if her vocals are going to continue this way in the tv performances. It then comes to the point that the tv performances can actually hurt the sales of your product and not help them. I can honestly say that if I was seeing Ayu for the first time in one of her tv performances this year I would probably think something like, "cool stage and cosumes, but she can't sing at all. Must be sorta Japan's version of Britney or something." It's only because I'm already a die hard fan that I've at least been able to enjoy her performances this year to some extent.

But it wasn't just Mirrorcle World - that one actually wasn't THAT bad. It was the best of the times she has performed it actually. It was Surreal that was most off - if you watch all her Surreal tv performances back to back, she struggled with this one way more than any of the other times she has sung it; it's definitely the worst tv performance she has done of it I think.

Oh I meant, MW causes her to be so out of breath, she has nothing left for SURREAL. I don't think the only reason for her choosing MW as AT08 closer is that it's a good "closer".

if she does lip-sync it's also bad, she is not singing in live...

so what you want? She is trying hard to sing, and imo this is one of the best performance in TV since before t2m was released... all t2m performances in TV were no as good as she did in CDL, and TW live... imo only the performance in "chose best artist" was really good... and MW live in april... also terrible... at least this time her voice wasn't shaking, she controled it i think...

It's not that I disagree, but she could take things easier if she wanted to, I don't mind her singing badly, I'll still love her as much as always, and I may be dumb but I still strongly believe Ayu doesn't lip-sync as much as people here are saying. Plus there was nothing wrong with MW.

LMAO! So far I've only seen Ayu's and Ku's perfs and the crowd didn't seem "wild" at all XD Anyways, as I said, MW was decent enough, even good, I guess the thing that it was more of a Mirror performance and it seemed kinda rushed was prolly what annoyed me the most.
