Exactly what I thought, hopefully it will be the same with A COMPLETE but yeah, no getting hopes up.

Thing is that when I get my hopes up, bad stuff happens, and when I don't hope... I dunno what'll happen.

It's like how I was like "lol best fiktion iz gonna do liek okay unless she gets lucky as heyyeeelll" and look at how she proved me wrong. DANG U NAMIEYYY.

lol. Yeah, I was shocked by Best Fiction actually (and I'm a big Namie fan!) I thought it would maybe do as well as Play, never thought it would hit a million. But honestly it makes sense when you think about it. A lot of the singles on that album did not sell well when they first came out - maybe because the Japanese didn't like the style change at first? Then they finally started to slowly open up to it with Queen of Hip Hop, then embraced it with Play and then 60s70s80s was huge. So then the compilation comes out and people not only want 60s70s80s, but also all those singles like Alarm, So Crazy, Put em Up, etc that most people in Japan originally shunned.

Personally, I think the sheer value of BEST FICTION made it sell so well..

Think about Ken Hirai's 10 year anniversary best and how it almost hit 2 million. It had a TON of PVs in the limited edition DVD and 10 years worth of songs. I think that BEST FICTION should be considered a mini Utabaka in a way..

Had A COMPLETE included every PV Ayu had ever made, I'm pretty sure she'd have been guaranteed a 900k first week... but dang. That kind of compilation would cost an arm and a leg. Really big ones.

hmmm, I'm not sure about that. Even I wouldn't buy the BF CD+DVD version, because all of the PVs except for the newest ones were released in a PV collection not too long ago. I think it was mainly the actual content of the CD plus the two new songs w/ new PVs. (both of which are really good.)

Yeah I think they were considering the cost of it all when they came up with A COMPLETE.

I mean, if A COMPLETE had ALL of her A-sides (like 4CDs) and then ALL of the PVs for all of those songs, they couldn't have sold it for so little.

I think they've actually made a better tactic this time. Yes I do want a PV collection but most of us almost have had 80 - 100% of her pvs from her previous albums + A BEST 2 (and some people do own her A CLIPS blah blah blah). So I guess putting her previous TA Limit Live + a-nation clips probly attracts more buyers. Besides the pretty box + photos + the DVD, I think this is pretty much a A BEST collection to me.

Usually ayu's first two days' indexes are pretty similar... so logically the index shouldn't be dropped below 80K or so.. but now someone recalls that BF's 2nd day index was below that... I shouldn't give myself a too certain prediction..

The first day sales are very impressive. I hope she doesn't drop too much throughout the week. She faces competition later on, but I certainly hope A COMPLETE hits a million.

I hope Ayumi continues to sing years after A COMPLETE. I know this is suppose to be the "ultimate collection," but it'd be too sad to think of this as an "end" or anything of the sort.

No, this should be a "10th anniversary collection". I dun really feel like this should be the ultimate weapon for closing her curtains.
The ultimate collection will be something like all single songs + selected album songs + super package + extreme glamorous cover (i would hope for a conceptual cover, but judging from her current style I think this wish will be hardly granted..).

So dun worry, this is not the end yet .

and then day 2 ultimately decides the fate of this "namie vs. ayu" battle lol

I imagine "A ULTIMATE" (since A COMPLETE is taken right now.. unless they A COMPLETE ~ALL ALBUMS~ it up..) will be a compilation of all of her albums up until the "end" of her career if that ever happens, with super exclusive bonus footage and a 4 hour documentary..

But I'm just dreaming.

JE singles do have DVDs. not every JE group releases in a CD+DVD format though. of course, they're limited edition items, so the CD+DVD combo usually sell out quickly.
