I personally favor eastern music (more specifically Japanese) over western music. I find a lot of western music to be unoriginal and repetitive. I don't actively listen to western music as much as I used to but my opinion stems from what I've listened to over the years as well as what's current. Do I dislike all western music? No. There are a few artists that I like but I prefer listening to artists like Anna Tsuchiya, Ayumi Hamasaki, as well as others who make music that doesn't sound like everything I've heard before.

Asian...I find some really amazing and creative stuff.......
There's some good Western stuff as well, but I tend to find more originality in Asian music. |

^ Thinking more along the lines of instead of enjoying music for being music then picking it apart to find some hidden meaning. Oscar Wilde-esque outlook.

![]() In any case, I prefer Asian music not necessarily because I feel the artists are more creative or anything (because in all honesty, most of them aren't) but rather it offers a lot more variety and flavor then the music in my own backyard. Where else can you find artists like Kuu, Ayu, alan, Kalafina, GACKT, and Minimoni topping the same charts? I don't even pay attention to half the stuff being playing on American radio now but I bet you I can tell who's going to be up there: Over half are going to be R&B/rap/hip hop artists, Nicki Minaj and Ludacris are going to be featured on at least two of them, some "alternative" band, Gaga, and some other flavor of the month female (nowadays that's Kesha I believe). It may or not be the same if I'd were living in Japan. Probably just the opposite but aside from Britney I've just lost interest in American music completely.

Overall I would have to say I find western music more enjoyable. I think when it comes to asian music there are really only a handful of artists who truly are unique and the rest are just clones or copies. There is always a huge saturation of the same style in asian music, take for example girl bands in Kpop, there are so many and only a couple are actually decent.

I'll go off of what I listen to most and that's western.
You have to remember, western and eastern doesn't just mean right now and what's mainstream. It means ten years ago, twenty, thirty, whatever. And it doesn't just mean what comes on the radio. So when I say western, I don't mean crap like Jason Derulo or Lady GaGa. |

Lol. Its not like specific western songs that may mention or be called lollipop are about lollipops. Its usually a metaphor for something and the lyrics mention whatever the the theme is
Kuus lollipop lyrics can be matched by several western artists songs easily. Sincerely gaga lyrics can be better for example. And then knowing some of her other lyrics I like 4minutegirl do find ur statement funny and ironic. Western music as a whole shouldn't really be trashed so easily considering the number and types of artists. From europe to america etc there's a lot I could say. But I won't *points to innumerable amount kpop boy bands and girl groups* There's a lot for each side |

I'm no expert on Asian Music, but...these 5 'Western' songs were released this year:
Folk-y lyrical beauty and gorgeous arrangement: Melancholic dance track: Well-crafted rap. Catchy hook in the chorus. Amazing verses.: Fantastical pop ballad with quirky lyrics: Interesting, experimental love song: There's no variety/ freshness in Western music? B**** please! You have no idea what you're talking about. And these aren't even obscure songs or hard to find.

A few years ago, I would have said Asian but I have since seen the light. Generally artists in the West enjoy more exposure, so it's far easier to discover talented, creative people whereas other than having a few kooks, Asia doesn't really have as much to offer.
