I think that the people who think she should retire should go read the lyrics of NEVER EVER, and think about the "A BEST affair"... obviously she'll never give up, hence NEVER EVER. I think even if her CDs will only cell ONE copy, she'll still make music. She could have gave up and stopped long ago, but she didn't. and obviously she has quite a large fanbase in Japan if her 7th album in her 7TH year sold over 700,000 already, let alone the downloads. Many artists in her shoes would have faded away long ago, but I think it's taken a special and strong person to keep going so long.. =] so >.> I wouldnt expect to see her go away any time soon.

why can't people understand that if an artist doesn't sell well they could get dropped from their record labels which could mean no more music...

now, I'm not saying she's selling bad but if she ever releases an album that only sells 100,000 Avex will definitely think about letting her go...

I really don't think ... m.o.v.e sells really bad for years (6000 copies for a single for example) and avex keeps the group. Really, I don't know why avex would fire Ayu, don't be ridiculous. She is one of the label's bestsellers >_> I don't understand your fears, it's completly stupid, excuse me. Even if Ayu sold 100 000 albums, I think that it would still be a good score and I also think avex would still make benefices with these sales ... so ...

*cough* didn't Ami Suzuki's last album sell less than that? did avex let her go? No! and plus, Ayu has more seniority with avex, so I doubt they would just drop her.

But Avex spends more on Ayu compared to Ami Suzuki. I dont think they let Ami make big budget PVs like Fairyland or other pretty Ayu PVs.. Because Of You, Alterna and the like.. So if she sells lowww, of course they'd either drop her or cut their expenses on her.

avex will never drop Ayu. Avex hardly ever drops anyone. hitomi has always sold low, but yet she's still here. But now she has made her own sub company thats part of avex, so..if Ayu was dropped, she could go and make her own label, I'm sure she has enough resources to do so. Hitomi Shimatani sold, like I think 800 copies or so of her last single, and if I'm right, about 30,000 copies of her last album and they still haven't dropped her. She's still going strong with a new Double A Side single coming out in March. Sony doesn't drop that many people either. Although Toshiba-Emi does, more often than others. Ayu's not going anywhere.

thats true. if u dont rake in the sales, the company will spend less on you (so like cheaper looking PVs, spend less for better composers, spend less on the album promo, less on the covers) also, they will space out the releases much much longer. as for ami, yea shes not selling gd, but shes only been in avex for less than a yr.

Yeah you're right and remember Ami has the whole blacklisting issue behind her back and getting kicked out by Sony so yeah it's not easy to start over.

I keep asking myself, that those forumers who want Ayu to retire, are they really her TRUE fans? I'm just confused, and I'm not starting a fight. I guess I'll never be able to understand.

uhm guys, on Ayu's wikipedia discography it says that her sales for (miss)understood are:
922,900 (Still Charting)
(Japan)

.. is that true? or did someone just change it to something fake on purpose?

I guess the ones who think she should retire are the ones who possibly believe that they don't want her to die out slowly.. they want to end it quickly, you know? But then again, doing music and singing and performing is what Ayu loves, and I don't think she'll quit any time soon. If she got pregnant or something, maybe. But she's had SO MANY chances to quit.. and she never really took them. She's only actually 'quit' once during the whole head of avex argument thing. :p But she came back! I remember when that news first came out in the morning, and at night they said that she was back. :p

It's obvious that Ayu's not quitting any time soon since she loves singing and that's why she's still releasing and hanging around. Plus I'm sure that she wasn't planning to quit from the music industry but she was actually planning to get herself with another record label or with the labed Max would have been employed anyhow. Ayu's not that weak.

I definately don't want Ayu to retire but I do understand why others think like that. They just don't want to see Ayu go out stuggling and grasping for every bit of success with nobody even caring. That is what it hard about the music biz - one day your on top of the world, and the next day you aren't even memorable... They just don't want to see Ayu suffering, that is all...

She is an established artist and in her time (2002-2003) she used to sell quite well but the numbers fell down as of late which is sad since her releases are always high in quality.
