unfortunately but true

I think most people on here prefer Rock'n'Roll Circus by a long shot as compared to NEXT LEVEL but sales are getting from bad to worst as each year goes by

ayumi's not the only one affected by this

but I don't care . Sales are so secondary to me at this day & age

at least the album's #1 unofficially so that should make avex's people happy in a way or 2

I hope she can sells 100k in 2012
Now, the sales of RnRC are OK,
Look the sales of BoA and Ai Otsuka (down and down)

But Namie can sells much more with P>F, i wonder why

^ She hasn't been hot for a while, though. For some reason the public is united on her side again.

Sexy little things is more new and fresh than anything on P<F.
i don't think it has anything to do with that, namie's music is generic but catchy so people eat it up. just like how they all ate up the generic Days, You were..., and Sunrise but ignored the beautiful GREEN and BALLAD.

I really wish that was close to the truth. Her sudden popularity outbreak has little to do with her music, Ayu 's2009 singles did way better than Namie's both physically and more importantly digitally. It's not her music that's truly popular.

Because music is so important to me, I was really able to enjoy GREEN and BALLAD; it's actually a real shame that other people couldn't. Even if sales for Ayu were to decline, I hope she persistently goes on with the styles of music she wants to explore.

Namie's music is waaaaay too generic; so generic I actually can't have any sort of real feelings towards any of it. I mean I don't like it because I don't feel anything from it. It's just catchy stuff recorded to get things to sell well. Then there are loads of reasons I don't like her as an artist, but that's not the point of this discussion so I won't really go into it...

I guess that over the years, putting aside the economics all over the world, people really lost the relationship they had with the music of the past. It was music that made people cry, that touched them immediately because it suited their feelings perfectly. These days topics tend to be a lot more general and not the same way, and people these days don't quite look at those emotions the same way. These days...it's different.

Music like of certain other JPop artists is more popular in the world today, so when an artist releases an album that is greatly promoted, and the music is played everywhere, and it's music that's catchy and people can just dance to then people are going to take interest.

I think for emotional, powerful, moving music, people don't go to female Jpop artists very much anymore, like they used to in the past; a lot go to pop or rock bands, or enka singers or something like that. Somewhere along the line, things began to change and a lot of the artists showing up, even in the last five years, are the sorts of artists used to promote fun, cheerful, dance etc sort of music, with the occasional ballad for some diversity.

i'm satisfied with the sales so far. although it could probably do a bit better, it's still selling a decent amount of copies, so as long as it's still #1, i don't think no one should worry too much. ayu's still doing good!

Yep, she's still doing really well; I'm not worried and I'm almost certain that it'll pick up a little as it goes.

I hope this isn't the first Ayu album to debut weekly under 200K. Even by a little...

nice post and i agree with your comments on amuro. right now she's overrated in my eyes. at least some of her old music that sold well had meaning beyond the cringe worthy engrish, now there's nothing. ayu has catchy songs with deeper meanings so it's a shame she isn't promoted more to get the high sales she deserves. not that the sales are bad, but most of us can agree she deserves more than this with her strongest album in years.

I'm quite satisfied with sales, ok she's selling less than past years but who cares.
High sales doesn't mean high quality, always.
At least RnC sounds better than the overrated and messy P<F imo lol (and I like Namie too btw)

For those that agreed with my post, I guess I can safely say that you're the sort of people that still care for music that touches peoples hearts like it used to. Maybe it has something to do with the generations, the times we were born into?

And the thing is, people will often say Ayu isn't as fresh as she used to be and that she's 'no Goddess of the jpop world' or something like that, meaning they think its stupid for the people to like most of what she does, even now. But, you know, for some people, like me for example, her music will always be those things to me; fresh, and interesting and such. But this is naturally because Ayu is the only jpop artist I can actually stand to listen to this days, and because the rest of my music is heavy jrock bands. Because she's a female artist that's writing about the emotions that used to be so important to me, and touch me so much in the past.

Because of this, even though not everyone will like her work at all stages, to someone like me, she'll always stand out.

Does that make any sense? *tends to ramble*

Forgive me! I'm a writer, and I write my feelings too much -_-

i hate when people think that high sales = high quality and low sales = low quality. some of the best artists are underrated and "flop" and some of the worst are overrated and still sell a lot (hello britney spears and most other popular artists in the US except a select few). it might just be that in a few years ayu will be an "underrated" artist, and that's okay, as long as she keeps the quality music coming.

no i get what you mean. she obviously puts a lot of effort and thought into her music. it's like with each new song we get a peek into her diary, it's interesting. i think ayu has a great combination - thoughtful lyrics + great arrangements + emotional voice.

Yep; as long as she's happy making high quality music, she'll keep her listeners that are interested in it. Having high sales is just a great thing, but it isn't everything.

I never said that Namie is the villain; I don't think this is the sort of thing where there'd actually be a 'villain' as you put it.

And need I point out the obvious? You hate fans and you're on a forum that is...you know...filled with fans?
