To me a cover is a "fail" when it sounds exactly like the original, and Kumi always bring a new breathe to those songs... For god's sake, the album is called Color The Cover, it's about making songs have a more appealing and colorful style. And yeah, I checked out all the original songs, and they're great, and so do are Kumi's covers. You are making a big deal of this calling them cheap and trashy, for sure.

And I'm not that kinda of fan that licks her floor when she walks in, she do bad things too (hello Dejavu, I'm still looking at you), but that's not the case of Color The Cover.

To say the purpose of the album is to make the songs "more appealing and colorful style" is disrespectful to the original artists. Normally artists make cover songs as a tribute to the original artist and not to make them "better". And in general I'm ok with "Pink Spider" not being a rock song anymore, what I'm criticising is not that the songs got a new arrangement. Like I said in my first post I like it when cover songs aren't exact remakes of the original songs and instead bring in the personal style of the artist who does the cover. But the arrangements on "Color The Cover" are just far away from being great. Like I said, they are plain cheap and trashy.

I listened to all the original songs before listening to Kuu's versions and I do prefer Kuu's versions. If anything, to me, the 80s/90s tunes sound dated and Kuu managed to breathe new life into them. To each his own. You don't have to like them, but get off your high horse and stop talking as if we're not allowed to like Kuu's versions.

She's not disrespecting the artists though, and if they felt she was, they never would have agreed to letting her cover the songs (huge media problems etc.)

She's taking the songs and making them her own, in her own way, and updating it.

So basically, what you're trying to say is that in your opinion, you don't like that the covers sound so different from the original source. That's ok to voice your opinion, but I feel that there's a nicer way of saying things instead of just calling something outright trash because it goes against your idea of what a cover is.

I'm not trying to m ake a problem or start anything, I just had to get this off my chest. I mean...everyone who has covered Pink Spider has covered it as a rock song, she wanted to do something different. I know you said you were ok with that, but I feel that a lot of people has issues with the sound, so I'm addressing that too.

I repect your opinion, but I feel there is a better way of wording things.
I still have yet to check out the whole album lol. I'm so lazy...

Shake Hip! was perfomed at Bokura no ongaku with an outfit pretty similar if not the same of the PV. I mean, the Cool Beauty/Secret agent outfit, just saw a pic at FB

Did you think that the reason kuu fans are so optimistic is because they enjoy the music she produces? We are a simple bunch to please lol.

So basically, what you're trying to say is that in your opinion, you don't like that the covers sound so different from the original source. That's ok to voice your opinion, but dude, there's a nicer way of saying things instead of just calling something outright trash because it goes against your idea of what a cover is.

Totally! I love how she did not play safe with it Even if the way the song turned out aint that "anti-safe" lol

@Chibi-Chan Just because you don't like the new arrangements or they aren't your taste, it doesn't mean they're trashy. Not to be rude but I think that was a poor choice of words... you could say low class or low budget, but the word trashy makes me think of Courtney Stodden or something. I don't know, maybe that's just me.

Anyways, I think there's a difference between blindly loving everything an artist releases and what the Kuu fans are doing here. Kind of like what happiholic★ said, I see no point in criticizing an artist you love to the point of insult when they release something you don't like. If you read the posts about Color the Cover on the past few pages, I think you'll see quite a few people mentioning songs they didn't like, but unless provoked, why should they go further in depth about why they don't like them? I think it's more important (and more fun) to focus on the positive and that's why I love coming to the Kuu thread-- people here are always so positive about the things she does. It's not fun being a fan when all your fellow "fans" are dragging your favorite artist through the mud. Most of us here at AHS aren't musical professionals anyways so we can't properly critique releases.

I think you're getting it wrong there. A cover is a fail when it's not good, something that can be applied to any song out there. If the cover sounds exactly like the original, what's the problem?

Also saying that the name is about "making songs more appealing" you're implying that the original songs are not appealing. The name of the album is just about the style of the cover + upbeat vibe of the songs, that's not about making bad songs into good songs.

I just listened to Shake Hip! by Kome Kome Club, and their version is very old ^^
It had to be a hit back then, and Kuu managed to keeep that "hit" thing and gave a "sexy" vibe to this song.
I can't wait to hear this song live

I rarely like the original versions of the songs Kuu covered. TATTOO and SWEET MEMORIES are probably the only ones that I really do.

opinions opinions... it's understandable why some people don't like what kumi did with the original tracks, I actually think japanese people won't like it either, I mean it's not their style. that is why most of us LOVE it

in my opinion, it's not just the modern arrangements in her covers, but her vocals as well, they're so vivid and energetic that all the songs she covers turn out so much better.

anyway...

I'm whoring the album like there is no tomorrow, but I did my own tracklist for it (since it's pretty balanced and I don't like the original order) - didn't include Uta wa waga inochi 'cause it's out of place

01 ピンクスパイダー
02 どうにもとまらない
03 Shake Hip!
04 ラブリー
05 One more time,One more chance
06 「男」
07 Blue Velvet
08 情熱
09 今宵の月のように
10 Alone

I can imagine this album having a Music Video for every song, it's so flawlessly great.

I think you guys not even try to understand what I say. It's not the genre of the songs I'm criticising, I'm a Britney fan and to say it's just not my genre and I just don't like dance pop doesn't make any sense.
For example, I really like "Scream & Shout", 'cos it works as a club song, but it is just trash like "Color The Cover". The arrangements ARE trashy and cheap, if you like them nonethless that's ok, but it doesn't safe the songs from being what they are. Normally I woudn't care about Kuu releasing trashy and cheap sounding songs, but she turned really great songs carelessly into something that could be considered an insult towards the original songs.

Edit: About the original artists decided to give the songs to Kuu. I'm sceptical to which extent hide agreed to her "Pink Spider" cover. And in generel most of the time the label of the artists decides about things like that, the original artists often don't have anything to say when it comes to things like this.

Well, first off, hide is dead so I don't think he has very much to say about it.

I guess we can all just agree to disagree on the word "trashy".

@whoever posted the book~

I had no idea there were going to be so many pages! I saw the photos on peeproom, but damn

[QUOTE=emi♡;2980093]Well, first off, hide is dead so I don't think he has very much to say about it./QUOTE]

---> thats a nice way to put it ..... poor hide

indeed he is not here with us anymore , but his family own the rights to his songs (there was a lot of fuss when yoshiki used hide image during x japan latest tour, Headwax a company own by hide's brother did sue him because he didnt ask the right to use hide's image) , so his family or at least Headwax had to agree with avex in order for kuu to cover it .

that being said . i have to agree i didnt like those covers either ( maybe because i knew all the originals to start with/or maybe because i fallow kuu since her debut and her style have changed a lot) and couldnt stand her voice being manipulated so much or the electro sound on pink spider .

im not saying i didnt like the covers because they don't sound exactly like the original, i didnt like the covers because i would have like some different arrangement than the ones done for this album.

kuu does usually wonderfull & classy covers during music fair/or during her Eternity: Love & Songs tour but the ones in this album are just not reflecting the full potential of her voice and the music arrangement weren't the best .

dont get me wrong i still like kuu , but for me this album wasnt what i was expecting from kuu

again everybody have different taste i respect it.those are only my personal opinions.im just adding my 2 cents for this album review . please also respect the people with a different opinion .

now for those who are interrested here re all the promotional pics and inside preview from her album https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...4137694&type=3

here are the photos for the namba fashion event https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...4137694&type=1

Are they going to release a TW / HK version of this album ?
I really like the packaging of the Limited Edition, but the price is quite high in JP version...
