Didn't like it either, hopefully the album has some hidden gems.

The song is a travesty! I thought she would return to more straightforward style electronic pop bops. Like Monster, Alejandro, Love Game. Songs that have clear cut verses and choruses, and just enough contrast between to two, with a lead-in that really builds on the anticipation and then delivers on it in full force. This is her worst lead single ever. She needs to stop making everything so dramatic.

I on the other hand think this is very 80s--and not immitation 80s haha.
Certain parts of the song her voice really reminded me of Stevie Nicks. The tone maybe... And I got a tinge of Stand Back vibes lol. Probably just crazy. But either way, the only issue I have is the length. It's quite a quick song. Wish it were longer. I like it more than most of Art Pop and I enjoy that it's a bit more commercial.

For me, this song is a breath of FRESH AIR.
Usually I dread Gaga's next release but this one I liked. I find people's reaction are very strange to this song. This song is more Gaga than anything on Artpop. Perhaps some people have forgotten who her influences are. "Gaga grew up listening to artists such as: The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Queen, Bruce Springsteen, Pink Floyd, Mariah Carey, The Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin, Whitney Houston, Elton John, Blondie, and Garbage, who all influenced her. She has cited heavy metal bands as an influence, stating that Iron Maiden "changed my life" and describing herself as "the biggest Black Sabbath fan on Earth". Gaga's musical inspiration varies from dance-pop singers like Madonna and Michael Jackson to glam rock artists like David Bowie and Freddie Mercury, as well as the theatrics of the pop artist Andy Warhol and her own performance roots in musical theater." - Wikipedia This song is just more like her rock influences, that's all. Everyone will get their dance pop queen music within the new album sure enough. ![]() I keep hoping that Lady Gaga will come back down to Earth and stop with the pretension and theatrics and maybe this song signals that. |

Not coming here to hate on Gaga or anything. Even though I am not a fan, I was pretty excited about this release. Unfortunately, and my words may be too harsh, this song is the worst I ever heard from her. I could not even finish hearing the song, (which happens rarely), because it was really cringy to listen to. The melody, her voice... really no (and these things ain't normal to say about an artist like Gaga) Still, I am looking forward to the collaboration with Florence Welch.
@EndOfTheWorld; I get that you want to make your point across, but the style of Perfect Illusion has nothing to do with what kind of artists Lady Gaga looks up to. She has clearly found her own style and this song is not special in any way; it fits Gaga's discography. Tho I am glad that the song appeals to you.

I would agree with you that she has her own style of music but it is because of her influencers that she makes the music she makes today. It's a mix of artists she loves and also her own personal creativity.
I also agree that this song isn't particularly special. While I like it, I don't love it. I haven't been a Lady Gaga fan for years but like you too, I was anticipating this release. ![]() |

This is exactly how I feel! I didn't really like it at first but now I'm listening to it nonstop. Literally, I am listening to it right now. Gaga has not disappointed me yet.

Perfect Illusion is fucking terrible. Her vocals are so grating and I can't take her seriously with that enunciation -- what the hell is she doing?
Even the production isn't up to the what I was expecting from Mark Ronson. Everyone failed to deliver. |

Lady Gaga's 'Perfect Illusion' Reimagined With Disco Vibe
![]() Afraid that you might overplay Lady Gaga's new song because it's just so good? Don't worry, we've got a new remix to spice things up. Young musician and Gaga Daily reader Ethan Onyx decided to put his own spin on Gaga's "Perfect Illusion" and turned it into a funky disco anthem. "When 'Perfect Illusion' was released, I was so blown away by the track and had it on repeat for hours, soaking in and absorbing the melodies and the lyrics," Ethan told Gaga Daily. "Because I related to the song on such a deep and personal level, I wanted to leave my mark on it in some way. I combined the pain of her lyrics and vocal delivery with a euphoric and upbeat rock/disco instrumental that I created myself to create a tears-on-the-dancefloor duality." https://soundcloud.com/ethanonyx/per...han-onyx-remix

Clearly in the minority here, but I enjoyed the song. It doesn't beat anything from her Fame Monster days for me but her voice, despite sounding different, stands out and it's a simple catchy track. I think it's a nice enough mainstream comeback for the album.

I also like the new song.
Her voice is alright for me. I'm not a big fan of Gaga, but she has gems here and there.

She slayed me completely. While I did expect a really hardcore electropop track, the lyrics really sopke to me and they alone made this song amazing. Music wise it isn't that mind blowing like her oldies were (especially on TFM) but the song isn't shit in my opinion. I'm interested to know what's gonna come out next.

I don't know what the problem is with you guys. It's a straight forward pop songs, very nice tone and vocals - to attract new and old fans. I don't know what you did expect, but this is surely a radio banger - and that it was she should aim for after Artpop - at least if you don't want her to vanish from the music scene.

I really like the song. Reminds me of some of the 80s songs from my childhood.
