I guess none of you follow misono on Instagram, cause then you would know what she actually sounds like.

Also, y'all can bitch and complain all you want about Kuu's current music style, from her vocals to the types of songs she makes, but to me THEY ARE EPIC. Its the kind of music I live for. Totally my aesthetic. Interesting and different. More importantly, just like Ayu, she's doing what makes her happy.

Apart from the obviously distorted vocals I don't see what's so terrible about it as well o_o I can understand when people don't like her voice in songs like OUTTA MY HEAD but this one is pretty fine to me.

Completely agreed! I was nervous listening to the song reading everyone's comments but it's really good and her vocals sound perfect for a rock song IMO. Guess Who Is Back is already better than everything else from this album and AND for me.

The first distorted part after the intro is an effect I often hear in (Death) Metal. I've just waited for her to end that part with some screamo.

I don't usually like to "spoil" myself for an album by listening to songs ahead of the release, but as this is Kumi's first tie-in in years I had to check it out. I'm loving it from what I've heard! Potential to be one of the best songs on DNA?

No point in trying to prove something to trolls & haters. They are the same ppl who were unhappy with Kumi's music for the last 8-10 years and will never be, they worship every fart their favourite artist makes and come here to shit in KK thread. Sad.

I’ll have you know I worship noone’s “farts” - if something is shit, I say it’s shit, no matter WHO took a squat and pushed it out.

That’s one thing I’m actually really proud of. I’m highly critical yes, but it’s because I have the ability to judge the product and remove any emotional attachment I have to the artist. My judgement, although harsh, is pure - unadultered by other factors that cloud the authenticity of the verdict. Thus, I don’t trust another person’s judgement when they reference the artist’s character and/or effort when defending a work. It’s unrelated to the quality of the music! Music takes no offense, so I can judge it freely and without shame.

And I’m just as critical with anything that I produce myself.

In summary, I worship music, NOT idols.

I feel like she's giving off Ningyohime a little bit in the Guess Who Is Back song.

Your opinion is your opinion and should be respected (though you can definitely show more respect in voicing it).
But nobody is 100% objective.
You may not biased with an artist, but your are for sure biased with your taste in music.
Like everybody else.

Lol, that’s true - I am inclined towards certain patterns and phrases in music. However, it doesn’t mean I’m forgiving of songs just because they are classified as a genre I like. For example, trance is my soul - but it’s also what I’m most critical of. Take Ayu’s Terminal - to me, it’s one of her weakest tracks. I hate it. In the same vain, Kumi’s discography is LITTERED with songs of a genre which, in paper I despise, but the pieces themselves she’s released I love. I hate rap, r&b, hip-hop, but in the past Ku has been able to deliver it and affect me in a positive way that I never thought possible. So it’s not always so clear cut.

Regarding my delivery of opinion, I’ve said it before, but it’s important to me to convey the accuracy of my thoughts and reactions. I have a duty toward authenticity. I need to convey the extent as accurately as possible. Muting it removes my own color.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but insinuating that someone else's opinion is coloured by their love of an artist and that yours is somehow better because it's 'unbiased' isn't going to be helpful in discussion. Let's be a tad more respectful here to avoid unnecessary drama over a non-issue.

This is a general message to everyone in this thread

I respect Koumori speaking to that topic and I agree with her. Your opinion is not better than anybody elses, even though you may have more technical knowledge about music and can voice it in a more accurate way. Or the other way round.
Just to answer to your thoughts here - I didn't mean only being biased towards certain genres of music, also like you said towards patterns, techniques, certain uses of voices and so on. Such stuff isn't limited to certain genres.
E.g. you clearly don't like Kuu's singing technique she adapted in recent years. You're not alone with that, but there are also people, who disagree with that and like it or don't see a problem with it like now with Guess Who Is Back. It's not a problem of quality here, Kuu is working with a vocal teacher ever since she started experimenting with her voice in 2015.
It's just your preference to something else, mainly the different atmosphere she is delivering judging from your words.

To those who wrote that they have not been impressed with what Kuu released in recent years all I can say is that what you dislike others will like and vice versa

Everyone is free to continue or stop supporting Kuu due to variety of reasons but when you sound as though only your opinions matter while you put down others for disagreeing you then that's a problem and the never ending online war of words begins

Also I feel that doesn't mean you know a ton of things others don't it makes you look superior . I'm no music tech expert myself but it's not as if I felt inferior about it

End of the day please spare a thought for the long time fans of Kuu on here . If you don't like what Kuu has been releasing then just don't post on here or keep your opinions to yourself , there's no need to make matters worst by adding fuel to the fire

And before I forget I'm not going to listen to DNA previews I just wait before the album is released next month to have a clearer opinion towards it

I'm all for discussing different aspects, if people want to.
Regarding her different vocal delivery, her recent TV Tokyo Music Fes performance is really interesting.
Cause she performed PARTY and Megumi no Hito back-to-back there and you can directly compare the different uses of her voice. The new rougher, more throaty one in PARTY and the old, more polished one in Megumi no Hito.

omg I wasn't expecting rock :O
I'll have to wait for the full version before I judge, but I think I'll like it.

Do we know the name of the song Kuu said was difficult for her to record?
