I would disagree that her neglecting TV promo is killing her sales that much, as for example Koda did loads of promo and live perfs of her album tracks and it didn't really help her much. Same goes for Hitomi Shimatani she did live perfs for her last single SMILES and it sold as much as her previous single (almost nothing) + she is constantly on variety shoes and radio. Of course it would surely help a bit if Ayu would be more active when it comes to it ^^.

And I don't really care if she is #1 or not, as long as this albums sells close to GUILTY.

I think people put WAY too much emphasis on TV lives creating sales.

I can only assume, but TV ads and billboards are going to be the most effective in telling people a new album is coming out. Then it's radio and music videos that are going to give people previews of what's on the album etc. These are the most effective tools - which explains how the album can sell 100k. TV lives of course help, but they're far from the most effective promotional tool.

I think a lot of overseas fans think TV lives are best promotion because it's the promotion they see. They don't hear the radio, they don't see the music channels and that so...

^ TV promotion can only help though. Shows like Music Station, Heyx3, and Utaban are aired in primetime on the Japanese equivalents of ABC, NBC, FOX etc. They are some of the most watched programs on Japanese tv. They are definitely a good source of promo, probably even the best sources. You could argue though that performances on Music Fighter and CDTV aren't as necessary though since they air extremely late at night. TV promotions are crucial for bringing in casual listeners imo. However, if your sales are almost totally just driven by your core fan base and very few new listeners are being brought in, then tv performances seem to start having less of an effect on your sales.

Anyway, one thing that confused me - are the 99k sales for 24/3 or 25/3? Because in Singapore now, it's already 26/3, and Japan is only an hour difference with Singapore, so I'm assuming that 99k is for 25/3?
It's 24/3 sales. Some people pointed out that some stores in Japan do put the cds on sale a day earlier (I dunno if that's 100% true). But it's safe to say that some of the 24/3 sales are preorder sales. If you follow oricon charts you should see that all the new releases enter the daily chart "one day" earlier than the actual release date.

That's... quite a great fall lol. But oh well it seems like my hope for NL getting no. 1 is getting more realistic . Good for ayu.

Wait.. the 2nd day should be 2009.03.25 rite? I guess they (the korean fan site?) just put the date wrong then...

well... this album is fresh air but come on : all the single/videos she putted out are classic ayu songs... U have to buy this album to discover new sound from her and that's a really bad single choice IMO. BTW you can clearly hear that the single are not made at the same time than the rest of the album because they don't really fit to the rest.

Now speaking about promotion when there's no promotion at all (I mean from Ayu herself) is pointless... She performed Days like 2 or 3 times only, all the rest was MW for her A Singles and last DVD. She didn't do a thing for Rule/Sparkle... So if she doesn't have good numbers... that's ok because there's no promotion...

IMO good numbers for this album are needed because most of the songs are fresh. Not typical Ayu songs (except singles) and ppl need to hear it to extend her fanbase and gain more interest !
Namie is popular now, Kuu too and Hikki still... BoA may gain more with her last CD so I think AYu have to step up her game to the Next Level and start some real efficient promo !

Let's say in this way... It took a few years before the general public accepted namie's new music direction (like... hip hop style). So if ayu's moving on to another direction (in a good way), then I guess we'll have to wait for at least a year or two before the new technique (?) getting mature and start getting accepted by people rite?

I haven't received my album yet so I dun even know if she's really heading on to a new direction.

I really hope Ayu isn't gonna be doing electro-pop like the rest of the world and I am hoping that unlike Namie, Ayu is gonna keep making rock music, as this really isn't going to keep me interested for a long time. (plus it's not really a new direction, only a few new songs actually sound like something she hasn't done before (EnergizE, Sparkle and rollin').

Ahh... I dun really know.... I got into ayu because of her techno music in the first place (LOVEppears). I wasn't really fond of her rock music so I was quite happy to see that's she's getting back to her root with a tiny twist.

And not only her music, but I hope that she's gonna reinvent her image more often (just like back before 2003). NL's covers did give me a shock that I haven't got from ayu for a long time. And I do really hope that she'll do something new for her videos as well...

Maybe I ask for too much... yeah I do.. I should keep my mouth shut for now LOL...

yeah well I do love LOVEppears it's one of my fave albums I dont have a problem with techno and trance, just that NL simply isn't what I'd call my piece of an Ayu cake XD It seems that sometimes reinventing yourself isn't enough to gain attention.

Are you serious? LOVEppears is no where as near 'dance' as Next Level.
