E only song outI can understand why she had trouble writing it. It is probably the only song out of all the ones used for Kingdom Hearts that is closst to the game. Sanctuary feels unfinished to me, I wonder why she didn't use backround vocals for it like how she did for Passion.

those lyrics seem pretty literal to me.

^I thought tobacco-flavored last kiss being bitter was a metaphor for the bitter ending of a relationship? (Like -- the end of our love, is a tobacco-flavored kiss, bitter and sad) If not, then sorry. I always took it to mean that.

Anyway that wasn't my point, my point was that the lyrics fit in a little strangely, IMO. I've always had this issue with those lyrics in First Love (mostly the way it's sung in Japanese too). Still love this song though <3.

I never listen to Sanctuary ...which is funny because I love the meaning of Sanctuary over Passion and Hikari over Simple and Clean. lol.

Utada really likes to use those everyday simple experiences as imagery when constructing her lyrics, both in japanese and english, and IMO this is part of what make her such a strong lyricist... One of the best IMO

There are few meanings with the tobacco-flavored kiss to me.
- It sounds cool to the teenagers in Japan (and probly to other parts of world as well) beacuse hey that guy smokes! He is either a rule-breaker (underage smoker) or just becomes an adult. (LOL. Really, it sorta emphasizes on the time when people tend to be rebellious. Of course you dun need to smoke or get drunk to show that, but I believe most people tend to be more rebellious during teenage because it's the period they wanna prove themselves as adults, or that they can take control of their lives)
- the taste of bitterness from a kiss signifies the ending of the relationship. It also a taste she'll never forget (assume she couldn't smoke because she's a minor, and i dunno if she ever smokes... I just know she loves alcohols ).
- it beautifies the scene. It has to do with the wording. Like I said before, the power of Japanese/Chinese characters can be lost during translations.

Haha, her past four tweets were about cappuccinos so I'm guessing there will be no immediate return from her hiatus, since she hasn't even hinted at it.

I feel so nostalgic while listening to DISTANCE (PLANITb Remix). I used to listen to it on repeat when I had just found this girl's awesome music somewhere in 2005 or 2006. I don't even remember when it exactly happened. I just remember one of my friends sent this, original version of DISTANCE and Kettobase! to me via MSN. I really loved the remix. I think that was the reason why I eventually ended up listening to Hikki's music after all.

I'm also kinda amazed that this is the second year of her hiatus. Time has gone pretty fast but I do miss her. I kinda hope that there would be a album coming from her in the next two months even when I know there isn't. :'( I miss her. I miss HEART STATION era when I overplayed HEART STATION/Stay Gold, Flavor Of Life and Kiss & Cry/Beautiful World singles. XD

And I hate the fact that I got into a huge fandom again just when she went on hiatus. I also hate that I still haven't watched WILD LIFE cuz I'm too lazy. :'D
