I miss when her arrangements for summer songs had multiple elements to them. fairyland has that warm, liquidy bouncing ball of sound in the background, and the rest of the layers kind of mirror that motion of sound. Really, it's so well put together that the layers of sound actually paint a picture, so rich that you can actually envision the sound moving and "see" each layer of sound as a separate hue that aids in creating a larger picture.
I do enjoy listening to "Step by step" but I do have to agree. I usually can't hear those kind of layers very well but the contrast between "Step by step" and "July 1st" is really striking. The waves, the soft guitar and all those little sounds just create this wonderful atmosphere of being at the beach with friends and just enjoying yourself. Something that is missing in "Step by step". That kind of sounds flat in direct comparison to "July 1st" and probably "fairyland" as well.
I like "Step by step" but arrangement-wise I would love it if Ayu worked with different people again.

Last night a saw for the first time in full Ayu's 15th anniversary concert and it was fantastic. And amazing tracklist, great outfits and great performance but Ayu herself seem stiff. Like her smile at times was sooo fake. It was especially noticeable during surreal~evolution-surreal. What happend? Anyone knows? Still the concert its great the tracklist alone is just

Agreed. I miss the days when the productions of her songs were all rich and vibrant.

God I love how much emotion she puts into her live performances. It really shows what a genuine artist she is. Does anyone know what's making her cry towards the end here? Made me tear up a little bit too

I suppose it's because is near to the end of the concert, and due to her fans. The "I feel you. I can hear you" is really common in Ayu's lyrics. She uses it to talk about a precious person for her.

CDL 14-15 has a beautiful moment that impacted me. When Ayu sang this song, in the part of " I can hear you" she places her hand on the left ear

Lmao! I actually always thought July 1st was overrated. I listen to it as an obligation, and I am happy to break it out for July 1st, but the song really is kind of unpleasant for me.

I know exactly what you mean. It's hard to feel attached and develop a relationship with the songs when you can't get lost in them.

I like it more and more as the years go by but I never understood why people liked it so much when the same single had "independent" and "HANABI" on it. It is by far the weakest of the three, and I feel like its weaknesses are emphasized by the fact that the other two songs are JUST SO FREAKING GOOD. I feel the same about "Greatful days".

I don't know if too many people listen to Anna Tsuchiya around here. I'm really only familiar with her work from Nana, but I really do enjoy some of her songs. I was thinking while listening to Ayu's song "Criminal" how cool it would have been if she had a version of it similar to Anna Tsuchiya's Kuroi Namida (Deep Sadness version).

I love that there are two versions of Kuroi Namida because one of them introduces the listener to an intense sadness, and then the Deep Sadness version like...ramps it up and makes it more intense. I thought that kind of thing would suit Criminal really well.

Here's some links to her songs so people can hear what I'm talking about:

I understand what you're talking about, Kuroi Namida is the saddest song I've heard and it gives me the urge to cry, everytime.
♪ "Kuroi naaaaaaamida nagasu watashi ni wa..." the chorus is a cry from the bottom of heart, truly.

Criminal ~deep sadness version~ would be a suicidal song !

I heard a LQ radio rip of Step by step yesterdy and it sounded great~

As for Ayu singing in English I think she said somewhere she can't express herself well enough with that language but, then again, that was before she fell in love with the idea of living in LA. Personally I don't care what language she sings in, I'm just glad she haven't retired yet due to all the critisism she has gotten lately.

That remix came up on my shuffle driving home tonight, funny enough.

I honestly don't like the original WE WISH. There's something about it I don't like. The Ramon Zenker remix is pretty good though.

It's so weird to see Ayu's full music videos on YouTube. You'd think that Slavex was up to something.
