Darren Hayes covered Ray of Light and it sure beats the pants off of Natasha Bedingfield's attempt. Ray of Light was written in a much higher key and Darren has the perfect voice to pull it off like it was intended.

MadonnaTribe has just received news about the Live Earth DVD+CD package to be released by Warner Music with highlights from the concerts for a climate in crisis.

As our readers remember, the 2 disc set was originally scheduled for release on September 25, but it has now been postponed to the beginning of November 2007.

"Live Earth" will then be released on Friday November 9 in Italy and in other countries having Friday as the usual street date - which is likely to mean that it will hit the stores in the U.S. the next Tuesday, November 13, and worldwide on Monday, November 12. In a previous related news article, on August 6th 2007, MadonnaTribe.com reported exclusively and for the first time online which Madonna songs will be used on this combo DVD/CD release.

The new live version of "La Isla Bonita" featuring Gogol Bordello, will be the Madonna track selected for the DVD. The live version of the Live Earth theme song "Hey You" will instead be the Madonna track selected for the audio CD.

Confessions World Records

An official press release today from Guinness World Records mentions some recent Madonna world records recognized by Guiness which are cited in their new 2008 edition:

Released on 28th September 2007, the new book reveals that the girl fight is not limited to girl bands, as Madonna steals Cher's crown for Highest Grossing Music Tour per Concert. The winning 'Confessions' tour was seen by 1.2 million fans grossing an estimate of GBP100 million, an average of 1.6 million per concert!

The Queen of Pop doesn't stop there, knocking Kate Bush off her spot for Most no.1 Albums by a Female Artist with her ninth, and highly successful album 'Confessions on a Dance Floor'.

It's way too early to be getting major details like that when we don't have any information on the new material. She's also too creative to give it a stupid name like "Madonna at 50."

Madonna, The Beastie Boys, John Mellencamp, and Leonard Cohen are a few of the many 2008 nominees for The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

Madonna, the Beastie Boys, John Mellencamp and Leonard Cohen lead a wildly disparate class of nominees for 2008 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

They join Afrika Bambaataa, Chic, the Ventures, Donna Summer and the Dave Clark Five on the ballot. Five acts will be inducted March 10, 2008, at New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel.

For eligibility, artists had to release their first single no later than 1982. Last year's inductees were R.E.M., Van Halen, Patti Smith, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five and the Ronettes.

In addition to Madge and the Beasties, hip-hop pioneer Afrika Bambaataa, veteran rocker John Mellencamp, disco queen Donna Summer, jazz/funk band Chic, English-beat group the Dave Clark Five, surf instrumentalists the Ventures and moody singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen are also up for the high honor, it was announced Thursday (September 27).

While nine artists are being considered for inclusion into the Hall, five will be honored at the induction ceremony, to be held March 10 at New York's Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.

Around the same time this year, R.E.M., Van Halen and Grandmaster Flash were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with Jay-Z, Eddie Vedder and others helping do the honors.

To be eligible for nomination this year, an artist must have issued their first single or LP no later than 1982.

It was that year, in fact, that Madonna signed a singles deal with Sire Records and put out her first tune, "Everybody," on April 24. Making a huge impact in the clubs as well as on MTV — which launched a year earlier — she became the top female performer of the '80s — and eventually, according to Guinness World Records, the most successful female artist of all time.

While Madge was revving up her career in 1982, so were the Beasties Boys — although at the time, they were a hardcore-punk band (previously named the Young Aborigines), not a hip-hop troupe. The NYC act issued its punk EP, Polly Wog Stew, that year — but then, with the help of producer Rick Rubin, the Boys Entering Anarchistic States Towards Internal Excellence made the transition into a rap unit. And the rest, they say, is history.

For years, the Beasties have been fighting for their right to party — now they, Madonna and others are fighting for a chance to get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Madonna isn't rock and roll, i know you'll disagree vinyl, but I really don't think she is. Madonna is always going to be pop to me. Also, The Beastie Boys are rap, and I don't see how they're on there either. If Madonna wins this, I'll be surprised.

I agree she is definitely more pop over rock but I think the hall of fame isn't exclusively for rock and roll artists now. To me it seems like it's more of a collection of popular and influential musicians since rock and roll isn't the dominant form of popular music. Afrika Bambaataa is most definitely not rock and roll but he was part of the people who revolutionized DJ culture in hip hop.

P.S. Did you know The Beastie Boys opened for Madonna during The Virgin Tour?

She's the Queen of Pop but she has a fearless rebel attitude, so maybe that's some rock-related justification for being considered. Is there a pop hall of fame?

I don't think there is a pop hall of fame, but there damn well should be! Seriously though I think The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is pretty much all we need. It's not so much anymore but a lot of people used to use rock and roll as a bit of an umbrella term for popular music, don't you think?

Either way like Cyria said, she's got the balls to be in both.

Well the calendars always consist of the pictures taken of her from that year so there's stuff from the H&M campaigns, Live Earth, Ariake, public appearances, and 1 from Confessions Tour. I posted a preview image on the previous page. She's still in a transition year so there's not a bunch to work with yet.
