Anyhow, alot of speculation in this thread so of course I'm going to add mine; based on what your saying and the history of Namie's comeback, seems to me that her current success is totally attributed to marketing ala Koda Kumi during the 12 singles era. That Vidal Sasson contract was the best thing Namie could have ever done. I'm also one of the ones who just cant get into RnR Circus. It flows well, but I just can't find alot of it memorable. Its almost like GUILTY part 2. I wish she'd take her time with the next album and make a Secret, Duty or LoveAppears part 2. Last edited by Yumsushi; 17th April 2010 at 07:19 PM. |

what is with the comparisons
ayu is ayu. no other artist has come close to what she's already achieved but you don't see anyone remembering that when new sale figures arrive. she's had her peak. she's passed it. she's 12 years old in the music industry and she's still selling this much? i actually applaud her. the only decline she's ever faced is the normal one that all artists face. for a solo female artist, and with the amount of singles and album(s) she releases yearly, ayu pretty much reigns over the others with her sales altogether. proof can be seen in end of year charts. nuff said. bringing koda, namie (who both have completely different career stories to ayu) or anyone else in this is pointless. |

What I adore about Kuu & Ayu is that they don't chase after sales, their true artists. Namie and Utada make generic fluffy pop music that sells IMHO.

Obviously you can't. No one can. So all of this comparison is pointless, really >_< |

I just think people should stop bringing other artists to this thread. We all have different taste of music in some degrees, so no need to bring an artist here to trash ayu, or worship ayu as the goddess while dissing the others.

she certainly doesn't make a huge deal out of it as people here.
she has been in the business for over 11 years, most of her stuff is #1 anyways. ayu debuted every album at #1 isn't that an amazing achivement? most artists can only dream of a longevity like that! it's not like avex kicks ayu from the label if she happens to not catch #1.

They are all pop musicians... they all have their amount of generic music and useless releases to milk their fans...
Nothing wrong here... |

^^ Agreed.
As much as I love both of them, Ayu and Kuu (especially Kuu, lol x_X) have been milked. It may not necessarily be their fault - I don't see either of them caring as much as other artists - but either way, it happened. And that goes for almost everybody under avex. It's just how it is, lol. avex finds something that sells, and they squeeze to get every last cent they can. But I do agree with Nackar, about how they're true artists. Even if Ayu was shoved in people's faces for years, and even if Kuu's a release *****, when you read their interviews and see them perform, you can tell they're different than a lot of people. I love that about them. Although, I don't necessarily agree that Hikaru isn't a true artist. You can tell, if anything, she loves to write music, and it's often genuine... Well, her Japanese stuff is, at least. I can agree that both Utada's English work and Namie's music is produced for the masses, though. >_< On the other hand, both Ayumi and Kumi have had some mass-produced songs, too. It's just a pop star thing, really. ![]() EDIT: I put all that crap about Kumi, thinking I was in the Kumi thread. XD Lol...... I tried to veer back on topic, but ended up flying way in the other direction because it wasn't even the right thread. Oh my.

^ Agreed. Plus I wouldn't go so far as to say either artist is individually responsible for the idea of a "best of/compilation" album. Even in the west, the labels and record companies are the ones to put together those ideas, right? For a guaranteed hit. Compilation albums = $$$ (or ¥¥¥ as the case may be), so instead of blaming Kuu or Ayu for best of/obviously ploys for sales boosts, blame the label~ But even "blame" is too strong a word because all musicians are, to the label, a means to an end. That "end" is profit and making money. To survive a label is going to do whatever they can to ensure sales and profit. That's just a fact of the business life.

From the last chaku-uta update I read I don't think think it received a certification yet. It's just been hovering around the top 20-50 for the past couple months.

![]() Stop comparing AYU with other singers... this is a thread to have the number of AYU's sales...not to compare her with others...here should be info. about AYU...only... If you want to make comparisons...go to another, more appropriate thread ^^ I got lost and had to go to the first page for the 4th day sales...thing that I really don't like doing... I like to read peoples thoughts, whether or not I agree with them... Anyways...I see AYU is still #1!! I'm so proud!!

Could someone explain to me why these are good sales? I'm not saying they're bad or I'm disappointed, but how is this album comparing with other major female artists? I can't remember what Kumi's UNIVERSE sold...

^ Well, when you say "major", the only solo females that come to mind are, of course, Ayu, Kuu and Amuro. Now, Namie's sales are a little over half a million, in case you don't know, and that's considered very amazing....which is sad.
Kuu's sales are also considered pretty good, but UNIVERSE has only sold about 350k, I believe. -_- Oh, and Kaela Kimura isn't as big as those three, but her best album sold 'wonderfully', at about 400k, if I remember correctly. And considering Rock'n'Roll Circus is already in the top 25 for the year, well.....
