I use the term "double birthday" with a friend I have who was born on the same day as me. We call our "our double birthday" - but by that definition, it does not work in the context of what Namie is singing about.

Omg...I am in total love with the "Birthday" PV, so far. Cuteness overload! I just looove the setting & how cute/colorful everything is, and every one of the outfits Namie & her dancers wore = I love! Especially that pink dress Namie wore towards the end. Looking gorgeous, as always! I really like the song & think it's so cute, so now I can't wait to watch the full PV and whatever other PVs that are about to air/be uploaded.

So I was just thinking about namie's albums, and isn't it weird that Play had however many singles, P<F had one single, Uncontolled had everything but 4 songs as a single, Feel had one (technically two), and genic has none?
She broke the pattern (for the better). If I had been a fan during uncontrolled I would have been a bit pissed over the album tracklist.

I also listened to damage again, and I still here "and the girl who became a human being." A reverse warholian expedition.

If the singles were not included in Uncontroled I would have been quite annoyed, I love those singles so much (though the album versions of YEAH-OH and Go Round are not as good imo, but the album version of Break it is awesome), just as I'm still annoyed with _genic because the singles were good but she substituted them with generic Engrish songs...

On the other hand, Birthday's PV looks super cute

The truth is that I know I'll end up liking the album anyway, because it's Namie and, even if I don't like what she releases at first, I know I'll listen to it again and again until I do... Or she'll make me like the songs when she performs them live, like happened with a couple of the songs from FEEL that I started liking after watching the tour. When it comes to Namie, I'm doomed to end up linking whatever it is she releases, but I miss the time I used to love her albums from the first listen...

I just listened to the previews and I feel a bit let down. There is some great production in some parts, but the record sounds so flat. It is nothing but generic dance beats with one ballad at the end. I feel like most of these tracks could have been saved for feature on future albums. Like, she really overloaded this album with dance tracks, and none of them sound like new styles for her.

I'm mostly let down by the lack of mixed styles. On every album up to FEEL, there were was a typical club banger, a ballad or two that sounded different from other j-pop ballads, a few mid-tempo dance tracks, but most of all there was always a big mix of different kinda of pop. I feel like she's desperately trying to break into English pop at the expense of her unique style rather than adapting her style to English lyrics.

Anything, as Zeke. mentioned, is way too generic. What bothers me is how much it follows the chord progression and melody of TLC's "Unpretty". When the chorus popped in, I genuinely thought it was a blatant copy of TLC at first. I had to go back and listen to Unpretty again just to remind myself of what is different.

Disappointed. Disappointed. After TSUKI and BRIGHTER DAY, and even Sweet Kisses, this reeks of "sellout". I was honestly expecting better, but I will wait for the next album. Hopefully the era of WILD/Dr./Shut Up/GO ROUND/Neonlight Lipstick/NAKED/Hands On Me isn't actually over. It was really good, and so refreshing to see good pop music that mixed both American and Japanese styles into a flurry of awesomeness. I don't want the creativity of things like 60s/70s/80s to be over, and definitely not to fall behind to be replaced by generic dance pop crap. :/

I agree with you.

It doesn't help that Namie takes forever to release something new, and when she does, that's all were getting for the rest of the year. So we kinda have to, like it in a way

I actually think that this is one of the things that helps to keep her up.
Releasing slower gives her the advantage of anticipation and less people lose interest in her fast that way. This strategy doesn't work for anyone but it seems that it does wonders for namie. If she would release more albums per year her drops might have been faster and people might have been getting tired of her more quickly (excluding best albums of course but too many would hurt as well).

Golden Touch, Fashionista and Stranger leaked in full?

I love all 3 but whoever the wrote the lyrics for Fashionista are so lazy omg. Verse 1 and Verse 2 have the exact same lyrics. I thought it was a fanmade loop until she switches up the notes. That breakdown though!

I've always loved Golden Touch since I first heard it in the sampler so it's nice to finally hear it in full.
