I am not a HUGE fan of Namie, but I always check out her works when she releases something, because there are those odd cases when I do love something she puts out there. And really I think her previous Japanese works had more character. I mean, they were all her own - unique in a way.

----------------------------------------------------------------- Another 'JELLY' preview shot. I really like this shoot. I haven't been impressed with any of her magazine shoots this year tbh, with the exception of her "GLAMOROUS" shoot.

Well, no surprise for Namie #2 today...but I'm pretty surprised about NEWS' first-day sales, compared to Namie's 111,458 last week...how would this shape up if Namie actually went head-to-head? Any regrets or something here?

I feel dumb for asking but where does this "supplies" reference come from?

From Namie's pronunciation of "no surprise" from her song Beautiful.

The problem for me with Namie's earlier works, is that while they have charm, a lot of them, for me, have a really...basic, or unfinished, or generally funky sound.
This album might be generic, but it has a more polished sound to me. I hope that in the future, she can bridge these two things. She has some songs that do to me. Like Yeah Oh, Sexy Girl, Do Me More, WILD, Dr...etc. Her best older songs, for me, tend to be the ones that are polished, but retain her sass and her hip pop sound. I like this album though, because, it's a generally happy album, that's just full of life, and that...I don't know, it feels special in some way for her. So it's a special album for me and my favorite, but....idk if I'd care for her to always have this sound, and this feel.

Random J "FEEL" Album Review
I love that he touched on Namie's Evolving/Maturing music and Kumi's and ayumi's stagnation as previously did I.

I agree with most of his review. Personally, I find it weird how Ayu's sound is constantly changing (debatable, I know) but somehow she's not really evolving/maturing as an artist. How can she take so much chances and yet be so safe at the same time?
And I really haven't listened to a lot of J-Pop this year but I agree FEEL's production is on point.

Personally, I think that's exactly why I love Ayu so much: she keeps changing but still sounds like herself. She makes every style she tries her own, her soul is in every song. It may be rock, it may be pop, it may be "dance", but eventually it'll make you say "that's an Ayu song!" That's what I search for in an artist who is experimenting. |

![]() It bothers me that people always compare Ayumi with Kumi and Namie ... she has nothing in common with them in term of musical style ... How compare a singer who does "almost only" pop/rock/experimental (at least since several years) things and another who does "almost only" electro/dance/r&b ![]() Btw this review is good but bring others singers to make your singer better is not a good thing IMO ! good point. I was trying to say something similar but couldn't find the words. Personally, I think that out of the 4, Ayu has experimented the most, with so many musical genres and styles but she may take us by surprise again with a more "mature" and "changed" sound. Back on topic,I FEEL that Namie's FEEL has started to grow on me somehow.I love RJP's reviews! |

RJ's review was definitely my favourite of all I've read so far. Very fair and well-structured. Really, the only thing I disagree with was the disapproval of "Big Boys Cry." It's no masterpiece, and it certainly sounds out-of-place with FEEL as a whole, but it's a very unique and enjoyable song as it is.
The negative feedback from many is definitely understandable, though; it's really hit-or-miss.
