When it comes to music, BoA is great. All the songs she's written/composed are some of her best, personally. So, I'm not worried.
Do you know which songs she's written? I could compile a list, just so you know and can see if any of your favourites are among them, which, in effect, could change your mind.

I always thought she wrote Girls on Top, since that's an important song to her career, but turns out she didn't.

She did write the songs LOVE&HONESTY and Nothing's gonna change though. She also wrote Dear my love from her second Korean album if memory serves me right. I can't remember any more right now.

Well if DCT didn't release their new studio album (which was packaged with their best album) she would have gotten #1. And it seems DCT are better sellers than BoA anyway. Producing the album herself might be a good thing since she her own productions are usually her best.

Most of Mamoritai's sales will be fuled by fans of the game but I doubt she'll sell more 20k in the first week, if she's lucky.

Producing? All by herself? She's not a song writer so that means she'll choosing which songs she wants on the album and then pay for them herself? A producer deals with the money part of this too so she's paying for this album to be made her way? Or is Avex giving her a budget to manage and then if necessary she'll add money to the pile?

i think BoA needs to try something new. the whole "look at me i can dance" in like every PV is getting old, and she needs to work with better people on her music imo.

i can see where you're coming from.....it'd be nice to have something very meaningful, for example like ayu's jewel PV.

I was excited that BoA is becoming a producer but that makes me wonder wwat kinda of songs she will have. Its hard to say considering BUMP BUMP is so..r&bish but Mamoritai is very jpop

I'm pretty certain that I remember her getting asked about something similar in one of the English interviews she did earlier in the year. IIRC, she said that she doesn't write any of her own songs because she doesn't have the talent for it and would rather leave it up to the professionals. I don't have any idea how the music industry works, so I don't know what goes into producing music, or if BoA has just changed her mind about what she's capable of doing. Still, if what I remember is correct, I'm surprised to see her taking that extra step in the control of the music she makes. I'll admit that it makes me a little wary, but it will be interesting to see what the outcome is.
