She is an only child. Ayu means "siblings" in a non-literal sense... that their relationship is so close, open and unwavered that they are like siblings... For example, she calls Aki-chan (the other girl) "big sister Aki", so she would be someone she is close to that may like to take care of her, or worry for her etc in the way a big sister would.
