I'm still quite surprised why Arashi got #5...what was last year's rankings overall?

That's quite a decent ranking for Arashi I feel. Last year was their year, what with great singles/album and that huge 5x10 anniversary plus the nationwide tour. They would have done better in ratings then. This year they're still popular, but they've toned down lots compared to last year, of course they won't be as high up in the rankings.

If there's any surprise with these rankings, it's that Kumi isn't up there. She didn't seem to make as big a splash with her 10th anniversary the way ayu or Arashi did, which is saddening. I was looking forward to a Kuu-dominated year.

Maybe Ayu's record-breaking single (25 consecutive - most for any female artist and solo artists of any gender) must have topped AKB48 because while AKB48 set a record, theirs is only a one-single talk while Ayu's single meant a record-breaking steak that spans back to over eight years ago...
