4"11" at 88lbs is a BMI of 17.8, 18 is the healthy BMI for her height and weight so technically she was/is SLIGHTLY underweight. However, 18 is not underweight for her height. BMI does not apply to all people though.

I'm sure she has regular doctor visits, so she's staying healthy and fit.

She seems pretty healthy, so it's probably not a big issue. She has a lot of energy for concerts and always seems pretty perky, so I've always assumed that she's really healthy. Most girls who are severely underweight (that I've seen, anyway) are sickly looking, but Ayu looks just fine.

Also, BMIs aren't accurate indicators of whether one is healthy or not. I had/have really low body fat, but my BMI said that I was going to lead towards the heavier side.

But wow, Ayu was 4'11? Holy crap! 0.o I had no idea. But she looks really, really great, so I don't see why we should be worrying so much about whether she's healthy or not. Otherwise, wouldn't we have heard some kind of tabloid/rumour news about her being underweight and thus being anorexic or something?

Also, I think she does eat a lot once in a while; I remember her taking some pictures of her food when she goes out, and I sometimes wonder how it fits that tiny body of hers! XD

Honestly, it doesn't seem to out of the ordinary to me. I have an Asian friend who's Ayu's height and she weighs right around 90..and she's perfectly healthy, because she's a competitive swimmer :p

I'm 5'0" and about 123lbs.
My BMI is normal and I don't look overweight, but seeing Ayu be so slim and have that considered "normal" makes me want to starve myself. x_x;;

40 kg is very normal for asian girls. most of my female friends do not weigh over 50 kilos.

Really? I think Ayu is much more attractive now and has been since MY STORY than ever. Younger she kind of looked more alienish (no offense). Just not as "gorgeous" as she has looked from Memorial address/MY STORY up until now.

i don't think she is around 50kg right now...
i think she is 46-47kg, but the most important thing is how much her body fat is, and i think she has a lot of muscle and her body fat is low...i prefer ayu this way, she looks sexier...

I'm 172cm and like 48 kilos, so for her to be 40 kilos and way shorter I would say is quite expected. If we called someone "OMG FAT" instead of OMG SKINNY", heads would be rolling by now!

I think her body looked best 2009 during the NEXT LEVEL tour, she wasn't stick thin but very toned.

i'm around her height and i've never touched 100 lbs. it's hard for me to put on weight, so i fluctuate in the 90s. i think she's fine.

That weight is fine for her, from her Twitter we can see she eats healthily and she exercises. It would only be a problem if she was starving herself to that weight.

Wow, what a fuss : D I'm 145cm [4'9" I'm not sure if that's right, since every source says different number...] And my weight is about 86lbs.
I just went to my schools nurse, and she said that I'm skinny but completely healthy, so I think there isn't any danger for ayu either.
