i was very obsessed with Riyu Kosaka from Be For You. Who is that? well she is a singer for dance dance revolution songs. My first jaapnese song would have to be dive...then leading to ayu. Riyu was very pretty and she had a cute voice...angelic. But now she hasn't come out with good songs, so it is like "who cares now!"

I listened to a lot of rock music. Joe Satriani, Linkin Park, 3 Doors Down, etc etc. I also listened to techno by people such as Armin van Buuren. Ayu was the first japanese singer for me.

I used to be obssessed with Shiina Ringo...*after* I found Ayu though. ^^ But because of her snail-like release schedule (even tho they are great) I switched back to Ayu cuz of her quick new (and quality) releases.

I was obsessed with those 99999 japanese Sailor Moon songs ^.^*** then I got into Megumi Hayashibara big time... then I heard Hikaru Utada on an online radio sing Automatic and really liked her. Then I think a couple artists later I liked Ayumi haha

Same here. I was never really completely obsessed and crazy over any artist before Ayu. I guess the the other artists just didn't catch my interest as much as Ayu.

Oh, and I was obsessed with anime music a while back (mostly Digimon and the Trigun opening).

I've been an MJ fan for 16 years, and a Monkees fan [ask your parents! ] for 13 years... those were my big loves before Ayu. Once I read the translations of her lyrics, she became as important as them.

I liked Madonna's old stuffs, all of her 80's music, but other than her, I never really liked anyone like the way I like Ayumi. And, as much as I love Ayumi, I still love Ella Fitzgerald the most - a true woman, and a true icon. She was the ultimate... still is.

I really liked malice mizer for a long time...
but it's really hard to be a fan from the U.S.... so hard to get stufs over here!
and then I found ayu and I liked her mucho!
my obsession was split between the two...
and then malice mizer broke up...
so all my fandom is concentrated on ayu now!
woot.
