Though I'm pretty sure when writing some of these songs or recording them, she will say what type of song it is, then everyone expects one thing and the songs sounds another. But I guess the fun of AHS when a simple question gets thrown around like this

Though if you listen to early rock as when it was first appearing on the stage, it doesn't sound 'hard rock', basically goes down to the instruments used and how the song progresses.

Though I know Marionette is a good example of a rock ballad

The definition of a Power Ballad/Rock Ballad
Quote:
An emotional hard rock/heavy metal song, often with a slow tempo, dramatic sung vocals, and many instruments, including acoustic ones and synthesizers. Power ballads usually start soft, then heaviness builds up with drums and heavy electric guitars.
It boils down to 2 major components.
1. The right theme : Stuff like love, death, fear, suicide, depression, even war and deceit with poetic lyrics that involve a certain amount of repetition for added effect on the listener.

2. The tempo and instruments : Usually a slow tempo with instruments like acoustic guitars, saxophones, keyboards, pianos or even ukuleles if necessary.

That's how you tell instead of ripping at each others throats It basically draws down to what emotions the song evokes with certain instruments

Many may not be your taste, but these are all generally considered rock ballads by more or less many fans.
These do meet the requirements:
crossroad
do it again
Sweet Season
reminds me

Over - possible

These are a bit too happy
Melody
SAKURA
Gloria
Will
November
beloved

They have to be a dark song basically of loss or death or some type of pain
Songs you listen when you are depressed basically

yearly rock was basically rock'n'roll more than anything else, it gotten heavier probably in what? 70s lale 60s?

to me rock ballads are darker than anything and what kind of rock music it is if it does't have any kind of guitars in there?

i only take these as sort of a real deal from her:
Marionette
Memorial address
Moon
Sorrows
Last Minute
Criminal
Still alone
Guilty
Countdown
Return Road
fated

A lot of her stuff is just influenced by the genre, there aren't many that i actually would call rock ballads. And half of the ones that i mentioned above are more mid tempo really. She has a lot of pop rock in her discography for sure. But if you search enough you can find even symphonic rock in there.

this would be a typical rock ballad.

She's just influenced by yoshio and to give him Awsome guitar moments for her tour
But over all its just considered pop since that what she is known for, but you could brake it down if you really wanted.

^^ I agree with that her music is more influenced

^well pop rock is a more mainstream version of rock for masses. It's lighter and more approachable. And that's more what Ayu does. Even though some of her songs can be much darker than the usual pop rock stuff, she still has less of those than the other.

I do think that Chibi-chan has a point svn though yeah she got a little bit heated up. I'm a rock fan myself, the actual rock. And it gets me going too if someone says it's rock when in fact it's not, it's just influenced by it. Ayu has never been a rock artist. She can pull it off, though if she wants. we know she enjoys rock stuff every now and then because she herself mentioned a few artists that influenced her on that aspect. Her music is still more appealing to the general public rather than a specific audience.

Ok, this is starting to make sense to me. My dad is actually a rock musician and he knows a ton of stuff about this. I personally listen heavy metal and nu metal and less just...rock, I guess? I've listened to a lot of light rock at least. It just baffles me that people could get so offended by this whole thing.

But then, as an artist, if someone tried to convince me that gothic art was the same as classical,I would get annoyed...

it is easy to get offended by this stuff, i would too honestly, maybe not to the extent, because i simply ignore people who doesn't try to learn things because they just don't care, but it bothers me too because there are genres in music and they have criteria that makes the songs fit into them. Classical music is classical because it's classical and not pop lol if you get my point. So i do understand You Chibi-chan.
It doesn't make the people, who know little to nothing besides their own opinion, stupid, it just means they don't care, that's all. lol
Lots of the songs orbitalaspect mentioned has nothing to do with rock. I did go "huh?" at that too, but hey....everyone is entitled to not give a shit about what they aren't exact fans of, but yeah i guess before you argue, you need to at least bite into the stuff you're arguing about, cuz it can make you look like a fool. Even if you aren't one. lol

Not everyone knows everything you do, so if we could educate each other nicely that would be a big step forward.

I just want to say I love count down and Last Links. I wish Rock 'n Roll Circus had more rock-influenced songs instead of RED LINE and those LOVE is ALL abominations.

To be honest I find that a little unfair, because I don't think I called anyone names or something like that. I don't think it's in favour of a better discussion culture to delet everything especially when people, or I, were calming down already. I tried to explain myself and I think I got a discussable point. I would have liked to wait and see if OrbitalAspect maybe would have answered and also calmed down and I would have liked to see if we would have both been able to get along and to apologize. That isn't possible anymore because the discussion is closed, sadly.
But since you are a moderator I respect your decision and I won't bring up anything of the former argument again. =)

I was speaking in general. A few posts were worded aggressively and for overall 'discussion culture', it could have been handled better by all involved.
If anyone wants to talk further about this, my inbox is open.

^I don't think that needs to be discussed further. You're the moderator, you made a decision and I will respect that.

Again, I'm sorry for causing trouble. I gave an list of what is an "ayu rock-ballad" for me. Yet, i don't think other artist could apply to that style - it is very certain for ayu herself.
