I just watched the live broadcast of today's SMAP x SMAP

All of them apologised separately . Already various news sites have wrote that SMAP will not disband

However I'm not so sure because the way that each of the members worded their statements , it was very open ended as they didn't really outright addressed the spilt rumours so it's hard to say

Shortly after SMAPxSMAP was aired , most news sites wrote they will not disband but my sister & I are sceptical because of the way each member worded their apology

To me time will tell and right now SMAP has a lot of things at stake , be it their CM contracts , numerous variety shows/dramas and their longtime fans that supported them for so long . Also before SMAPxSMAP was aired , their Universal Studios Japan CM was being broadcasted

Oddly the 1 person that hasn't commented on this was their former band member Mori Katsuyuki

SMAP members talk about recent troubles on live 'SMAP×SMAP' appearance

Quote:
On January 18, SMAP members made a live appearance on their Fuji TV program "SMAP×SMAP" and talked about recent trouble.

First of all, Kimura Takuya started with, "It is January 18th 2016 today. We have caused a public uproar since last week about us, SMAP, and we gave worries to so many people. If things kept going, I was afraid that SMAP could break up in midair, so we thought it was important for five of us together to explain to everyone. Therefore, we received this opportunity."

Then each members followed,

- Inagaki Goro
"I'm sorry for causing troubles about us. I hope you see us from now on, and would like to receive support from you, so we will do our best. Please continue to support us."

- Katori Shingo
"I apologise for making so many people worried and anxious. Starting today, I hope we can make many smiles with you again, so please support us."

- Nakai Masahiro
"Because of this, it made me strongly realise once again how much SMAP is receiving supports from you. I deeply apologise. Please continue to support us."

- Kusanagi Tsuyoshi
"I noticed so many things because of the words from you. I am really grateful. We are standing right here, since Kimura-kun gave us an opportunity to apologise to Johnny-san. I am relieved to be able to stay here with all five of us together."

At the end, Kimura said, "Lastly, we will keep going forward...just by looking forward, no matter what happens, so everyone, please support us."

It seems like SMAP's disbandment has been avoided.

Fans even commented the tie colours that the members wore , all wear black except KimuTaku which's a bit of an irony

For now I think they're staying put . I think madness will unfold should they really spilt

Even Prime Minister Shinzo Abe commented on this during Parliament meeting today which was random but when even politicians are talking about this , it means something and last week it was also on NHK's talk list too

Should SMAP spilt in the near future , I think they still can be successful solo wise . I'm not sure about music as vocally they ain't that great (Nakai is tone deaf to begin with LOL)

In addition , I might see another wave of their fans committing suicide . Crazy yes but it did happened when KimuTaku announced his shotgun marriage to Kudo Shizuka so you never know :x

Even Japan's PM Shinzo Abe is happy that boy band SMAP isn't breaking up, he tells Parliament

Quote:
TOKYO (REUTERS) - Japan's staid politicians aren't known for championing pop music, but even Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Tuesday (Jan 19) was hailing an announcement that home-grown boy band SMAP had averted an impending break-up.

Saturation media coverage and despairing fans greeted news last week that the five-man group, which formed in 1988 when its members were in their teens and in its heyday packed venues around Asia and sang for Chinese leaders, was on the brink of dissolution.

But late on Monday, SMAP - whose name stands for "Sports Music Assemble People" - said they would stay together, prompting so much joyful Internet chatter that Japan's Twitter network briefly crashed.

"It was good that the group responded to the wishes of many fans and decided to continue (as it is)," Mr Abe told a parliamentary committee.

"Like in the world of politics, I assume there are various challenges for a group to keep on going for such a long period of time," added the 61-year-old leader, whose ruling Liberal Democratic Party has been in power for nearly all of the past six decades.

Other Cabinet ministers, including Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga, lauded SMAP's survival and said they hoped they would continue to "give dreams and hopes to the public".

Seems that KimuTaku is the only 1 not willing to let SMAP disband :|

I wonder what will let the other 4 not to leave both the group & agency ? More $ ? Doubt so probably more control on their careers

It's possible . That time when Akanishi was still in Johnnys and cos of his shotgun marriage announcement to Meisa , his tour & album promo activities were cancelled as punishment

Gosh, what a mess. I can't believe how we got really confused with whether SMAP is going to disband or not...

Thankfully the thoughts of SMAP disbanding was only a rumor. But still, I don't know why this happened...

So... they're not disbanding? I don't even know what's going on anymore. Sounds kinda like they're being forced to remain together imo.

Gosh, that's unreal. I mean, for comparison, the Kouhaku was only 37.2%...no wonder why SMAP is really popular.
