That's right. Outkast has been around for a long time and has had hits like "Sorry Ms. Jackson" and a few others that I can't think of right off the top of my head. (I just woke up. ) I know some people who love the songs "Hey Ya!" and "I Like The Way You Move" have never heard of Outkast before and are surprised to know that they've been in the business for a while. I assume since Rap/R&B/Hip-Hop is making a very big comeback in the Top-40 world, more people are becoming exposed to lesser known artists from genres other than bubblegum pop. Kelis's situation is the same. If "Milkshake" was never played on Top-40 stations, the song would have never been as popular as it is now and Kelis wouldn't have had so much exposure recently.

Going back to Jason Mraz, the February 2004 edition of Teen People (with Orlando Bloom on the cover) has him featured as one of the new rising stars of the present day. They mentioned how he has been around for a while mostly playing in coffeehouses in California. I know his "Live At Java Joe's" album (that you can only buy through his website) from 2001 features a couple of songs that made it onto his live album and also sound better than the studio versions. So I still don't think he is or will be a 1 hit wonder in the near future.

Jessica Simpson -- I'm not denying that she can't sing, but now she's using the "Dumb Blonde Routine" to gain popularity. Her new album hasn't sold very well in comparison to her last 2, and Nick's album completely flopped because of very little promotion. Now her "Chicken of the Sea" act made her one of the media's top focus, made more people tune in to Newlyweds, and even earned her a future job (as a show host?) on ABC. And the sad part is now she purposely uses the "Dumb Blonde Routine" every time she's on TV. Shouldn't she be focusing on her music career instead of making herself look like she has an IQ of 10 every day?

Jamai makes me laugh.

Jamai makes you laugh... that's good ^^ for us Dutch people... it's just plain embarrassing. I was jsut having this discussion with some classmates of mine the other day. Holland has anything, musically, from classical composers to deathmetal bands, and good ones too, but still we SUCK at making popmusic. It's a miracle.

About Jason Mraz, I did not know all this about him, the only thing I've seen or heard about him is his [latest, I guess] video. We'll see how he will continue his career ^^ It's good tho, that, like you mentioned, he "has been around for a while mostly playing in coffeehouses in California". I have respect for artist who actually build up something theirselves, starting out writing their own songs and playing gigs for crowds with less than 50 ppl in it, and ending up as still sympathetic popstars playing for 1000s of ppl.

Jessica Simpson - no comment.

Jamai is the one who won the dutch Idols competition. some weirdo. small, fat, with tons of ugly glasses.

after he released his first single, he started saying he was gay, to get more gays supporting him. Then he was losing his female fanbase and suddenly he wasn't gay anymore, but bisexual. and up until now, still no second single ^^

The first time I ever saw and heard him was when World Idol came on:

http://www.worldidol.tv/bios_jamai.asp

I like the glasses (lol), but he reminds me of Jack Osbourne for some odd reason. Oh, and this part from the site bio "Jamai can now visit his own wax statue at Madame Tussaud's in Amsterdam" made me fall out of my chair laughing. Why can't Ayu have her own wax statue? Wax statues for all!

Snippet from the site: "Not many performing artists can look back at a dazzling career debut like that of 17 year old Jamai Loman, winner of Dutch Idols 2003. Since his smashing victory earlier this year he has grown to become one of Holland's biggest celebrities. In the future we can expect more song writing from the talented, young star."

Like I already said, SECOND SINGLE. So no one-hit wonder. I mean, he's pathetic and lame and what-not, but not a one-hit wonder.

It's true and sad too about that Wax statue tho. More terrifying... the runner-up has a wax statue too.

Wait... we can 'expect more song WRITING'?! I'm curious...

I'm probably mistaken, but wasn't Jessica Simpson the same way? Y'know... not relying on scantily-clad outfits and whatnot? I remember her debut a few years ago and she doesn't seem too much like the girl I remember hearing about, but I could be wrong...

Actually, Jessica Simpson's new album is doing VERY well. It's already been ceritifed platinum (1 million copies sold, and this was months ago), and her last album only went gold.... The funny thing is, she's never really had a huge single hit...

But then again there are artists whose singles do better than their albums (Mariah Carey) and artists whose albums do better than their singles (Britney Spears now, Jessica Simpson, Nelly Furtado, etc.)
