Would Kemuri count as obscure?

Actually all my friends think all the J-pop I listen to is very obscure, but that's only because they've never heard of it... x_x

They are as popular in Finland and surrounding countries as bands like Linkin Park are here in the States. They are gaining ground here though. I can't pick up an issue of Brave Words and Bloody Knuckles without there being a Nightwish article in it.

Practically no one other than other prog fans know those bands here in the U.S. And the prog scene here is very very small.

Hrm. Apparently Angra is also reasonably obscure, or so now I'm being told.

I didn't even know that.

As far as I know they aren't known very well outside of Brazil. They do tour the U.S. from time to time. But if you walked up to someone in the U.S. at random and asked if they'd heard of Angra, chances are very good they'd sy no. Good band, btw.

I know them, but I guess I don't count. They were on Dynamo Open Air here a few years ago (1998, I think, maybe 1999).

Ooooooooooooooooooooooh King Crimson. *punches self* Of course. I love whatever Robert Fripp's doing with Eno. Which is fairly different than King Crimson, but it's great nevertheless. King Crimson has some great things too, though. *steals albums from dad's collection*

I don't know if he knows Triumvirat. Seeing the similar artists list at allmusic.com, I think he should check it out, if he hasn't heard of them.

I love Ballistics, and Fall out boy =\ I dont think Ballistics has a cd. Me versus the Monster is good too. I think I got the name of the band right. I've only heard a sample of a song, but It was really good.

Used to listen to a few songs from Millencolin, I think they're a Swedish rock band or something. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Millencolin. I used to listen to them back when I still liked punkrock. I have two CDs by them actually (Pennybridge Pioneers and For Monkeys, although that last one is just a CDR), but they drag and drag to be honest. Not really quite diverse.

True.

"No Cigar" was my favorite song.

I liked that one, too. And some other songs off of Pennybridge Pioneers (No Cigar's on that album, too), like Fox and Penguins And Polarbears. However, I have never been able to sit through an entire album of theirs.

Local bands tend to be obscure.
