If when in doubt, send a message asking for the catalog number and make sure it matches AVCD or AVTCD (numbers)

Out of interest, do you have a link to the auction?

EDIT: I found one of their auctions...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tem=5955586012

I'm sorry, but if it states its region free, its an obvious sign to being a fake. At least you know now

this is what he/she replies..

Hi,

Honestly this is not an original one. And I have never ever said it's an original Japanese one or an Asian version. When the bidders wrote me emails to ask about the makers of the DVD's, CD's...? I've been honestly asnwering them, the DVD's are from a company called "Miya Records", which is located in Taiwan. I even told them, if you are looking for an original one, please do not bid!

I'm not trying to cheat or make meself to be belived a good person. But I'm really a very honest person.

Many new bidders or new Paypal users sent money to me twice, I not only retuened them the money, but also wrote them letters to teach them how to pay. Actually I was charges Paypal transaction fees as many times as they paid. But I don't charge them.

Believe or not, many bidders are Japanese who live in Hawaii, or anywhere in the U.S., some of them are students, some of them are..., Japanese people know exactly how much an original one cost. They would simply write me an email to ask, " who's the maker? How's the quality?" I always tell them the truth. They still buy. Believe or not, about quarter of the bidders who have bought from me are Japanese. (I can tell from their names.)

And maybe you don't believe me in that Japanese people use copy ones? Well, I'm not sure whether you've been to Japan? In Japan, everything's too expensive, and they really care about "Face" to catch up all the new trends. So they are to buy fake ones. Or simply they can't always afford the real ones. For example, you might think that the most percentage of people who use "not official Microsoft Windows" is Taiwan or China, because all the fake stuffs are from them. Then you are wrong, it's Japan. (You can check the official record, if you would like to.)

When I took a trip to Japan, I found something weird that a lot of shops have CD's, DVD's for rent, not for sale. I asked my Japanese friend, she said that they can't afford always to buy new ones, so they rent and make a copy, even copies for themselves and their friends. It might be funny to you, I know.

I felt bad when I got the letter from you. Because I know some people still care! Well, please retuen the DVD to me, I'll refund you by Paypal. If you have reported to eBay, it's OK for me. I don't mean to sell fake ones are good.

But please, when you try to purchase from ebay again, please ask the seller of the makers. I found some people said they only sell "only original, sealed, new ones, no used, bootlegs..." sell Miya's stuffs, too. Not me, I don't do that. So you can see some of my feedback shown the bidders said that I'm very honest.

what a good excuse huh..

About 99.9% of Ayu DVDs on eBay are bootlegs, sad to say. Usually if it's priced under $20 then it's a bootleg. And yes, if it is region free then it's totally a bootleg. Usually the seller will make a big deal out of the DVD is it is authentic, I was bidding on a Complete Clip Box where the seller was saying in huge bold letters THIS IS REGION 2 FROM JAPAN. On eBay you have to ALWAYS make sure it's Region 2 (for Japan) or Region 3 (from Taiwan, but I can't play Region 3 anyway, so...).
Usually people buy the bootlegs because it a heck of a lot cheaper and, since most of the eBay market goes to the US, people here don't have region 2 players, so having it be all regions is handy. But I would never go that low

Don't take it badly though. You can find a lot of good quality Ayu goods on eBay. You can get singles and albums for much much cheaper than YesAsia, and there's other stuff like concert swag and Ayupans too. Don't let this dissuade you from eBay!

Regarding the reply from that seller, I honestly don't think that's an excuse, at least he/she is willing to refund. Sometimes you yourself have to be responsible about issues like this, thinking about how much homework u did before bidding and did you read the description carefully, don't blame everything on others and learn how to eBay properly.

I'm not *****in, just to let you know you are partly responsible for not being careful with description and not bother asking the seller details before bidding.

If you buy things like that on ebay with no description which confirms is a genuine, u should assume with full pessimism there's 'something wrong' with it
If something important is not in the description of course you should be in doubt. You should then ask the seller to clarify some things.

Well, at least the guy didn't claim that it was real (the auction didn't even state a maker or product number). The only thing you can do to protect against bootlegs in the future is definitely to check the product number or ask the seller in advance.

Not to be repetitive with everyone else's advice, I will say this: be glad it was only ~$10, and be glad he's going to refund your money. I know people that spend $25 and upwards for a single CD on eBay only to get a bootleg and not be refunded. I personally avoid eBay like the plague, so good for anyone willing to risk it, but you do have to be very, VERY careful.

Ayumi Showcase price are damn expensive, i never bought stuff from him... he is just STEALING people, steal in the price of the item and on the shipping price...

I already reported ALL bootleg sellers + items for Ayumi stuff on ebay

Here's is a list of cheap, fair and good ayumi stuff sellers :

-ystgc
-tomohare1969
-penggy
-mnuguyen
-best.friends.in.tochigi
-pinkygirl629
-uscsteph
-popn_roller

Bootlegs sellers but reliable seller too (if you say that you don't want bootleg, they will refund you (if you paid trought paypal it's easy), and you'll juste have to return the item :

-animedrama

Tips in order to avoid bootlegs :

-Never try to buy CDL 01-02 or 02-03 alone, they'r all bootlegs...
-DVD Region ALL are bootleg
-If the price is very low (under 9$/dvd), the item is certainly a bootleg
-If the seller is located in Singapore, and the price of his item is very cheap, 90% of chance that the item is a bootleg too

Others tips :

-Try to buy stuff from sellers located in Japan !
-Try to use paypal for paying your auctions, you'll be refunded easily if there's is a problem with the seller/item
-Check prices on ebay and yahoo auction singapore too ! Sometimes they'r much cheapers on yahoo SG !!
-Avoïd seller like ayumi_showcase, that got huge pretty collection, but sell item at very very high cost, and make money on shipping cost too
-Ask the weight of the package you buy in order to verify online the REAL shipping cost
-Never buy from someone that got 95% positive feedbacks or less...
-Try to buy your ayu CDs on lot Some lot of 20-30 CDs are very cheap ! 2-3$/CD sometimes...
-Use combined shipping in order to save money
-Never leave a positive feedback before receiving the item, and testing it, however ASK FOR positive feedback AS SOON AS YOU HAVE PAID ! It will be better for you to have the positive feedback first.

When you are not sure if the item you are currently bidding on, is bootleg or not, you can always ask me on private message, i spent 2-4H/days on ebay/yahoo auction since December 2004, and already spent 750€ ( about 1000$) on ayumi stuff

Wow that person sounded pathetic and tried not putting the blame on himself. I feel pretty pathetic and low if I buy a non-authentic Ayu product. I'll always buy Overseas versions but not bootlegs. Ugh. That person can't even type properly

Check this fraud out.. AND SOMEONE BIDDED ON IT!

78US + shipping = bad price lol for a clipbox bought on ebay...

The clipbox is @ 93$ (+shipping) on cdjapan.co.jp. Personally i don't buy on ebay if the price of the item i buy is not at least 30% less than the official price [except for the things that are not selled anymore, like 3" singles, originally they was selled @ 1.000yens, but now they'r expensive ]
