Ayumi's style is evolving, I think those of us who've heard
RAINBOW can see that - and perhaps this english is a part of this
evolution. I think this step in a new direction is what really sets
Ayumi apart from Hikaru Utada! Utada keeps releasing the SAME
OLD stuff, always the same basic formal for a song "Generic R&B
Beat + Hikki = More Songs" X.x; Listen to 'Deep River', every
track sounds like its only a little different from the last, and the
album is obviously way too similar to 'Distance'.

People loved 'Deep River' and hail it as the 'best' album of the
year [that or 'I am..']. Well, Ayumi has just reset the standard
with RAINBOW - and if Hikaru wants to keep up with Ayumi, she'll
have to do something new as apposed to rehashing her old
style into new songs xD
Jasmine, I totally agree. I have noticed that Hikki's songs all tend to be the same. That's one of the main reasons I like Ayu SO much better than Hikki because she keeps growing whereas Hikki is kinda standstill. I liked the released singles from "Deep River," but found the rest of the album really boring.

And I don't think Ayu is planning on going western with her "english." Her accent is way too heavy and her english sadly isn't incredibly understandable. If I hadn't read the lyrics to "Real Me," I probably wouldn't have a clue what she was saying.

i really dont think her english is too bad at all even w/ her accent, like when she sang silent nite w/ gackt, i remember so many of my friends saying how awful it sounded so i expected the worse, but actually i was quite impressed! i'm not sure if its cuz i have a lot of azn friends w/ accents so i learn to listen better....or maybe it really is because their english sounds good...but i think ayu did a good job and i can distinguish the english words perfectly =) i hope ayu will not go tooooo far on the english though =P but a little english is definatly good

hey! Im back! I was reading around and I also really like her new style that she has in "Real Me" ... I love it!! Im downloading it right now to add it to my CD that Im going to burn that's filled with Madonna and lots of rock songs...yeah...but I also wanted to say that I love how she's somewhat changing..she's expanding new horizons and I love how she's going to take that leap and try something different for her. She may end up becoming really popular and loved, and who knows, she might even do a world tour and come to America for once! I just love the whole new style of hers a lot, and I hope she continues to keep them up!

While listening to the album, I noticed that Ayu's english is quite difficult to understand unless you listen very closely to the lyrics. However, she is trying very hard to show her fans and critics that she can go in new directions and be just as successful as before.

Maybe she wanted to include English and wanted to dance in her music and PVs all along, but she saved all those for something that'd shock everybody in one big bang. And the album, Rainbow, is that bang.. different style music, incorporation of English, dancing in a video, putting out a 40 minute music video, the incorporation of all these extras... I wonder what else she has up her sleeve.

She does a pretty decent job of English though.. I understood her without reading any lyrics. She's tons better in terms of English-speaking skills than Kuraki Mai, who I have to look at the lyrics in order to understand...

I think...if Ayu doesn't make an english album...that she should have a western tour...I'm sure she would get her fans to go....I know I would if she preformed in toronto.

yep ayu always evolves (agree with jasmine) but as i said why her sales' number isnt good enough because she release a single in a short period... (like 1 month) then she give less track than her usual single (thats make her single isnt so much worthy.. coz we can dl all her single...) i want the usual single style back... but 4 da english... i think i prefer ayu singing in japanese... but i dont mind as long its good (like heartplace)
