I think this only counts the amount sold while in Oricon?

It's really not suprising. Albums don't sell nearly as much as they did a few years ago.
Nothing sells as it used to, although the album sales have gone down a lot, single sales has dropped even more. One of the proves is DEF . DIVA managing to det in number one with a bit less than 30.000 copies in one week. ...

I am... was released at a point when sales were starting to drop (right??) and the sinlges released upfront also sold a lot. I never saw any statistics claiming it to be anymore than her third most sold album (not counting BEST).

VERY SORRY for not posting A BEST, by the way. Just updated. It's her best-selling album

No, it's not. DUTY is her best-selling studio album. I'll add total sales.

Yeah, I know Duty is her best selling album but I had read that I am was her second best selling but now the source for that has taken that number down, so it may very well be LOVEppears. I don't count A Best, just the original albums.

^heres the oricon yearly results for both "LOVEppears" n "I am..."

1999: LOVEppears: 1,443,490 (yearly rank #15)
2000: LOVEppears: 1,077,960 (yearly rank #14)
which puts LOVEppears at 2,511,450

2002: I am...: 2,301,020 (yearly rank #2)

obviously, the 2 albums would have continued selling, but the amount is not significant to be provided in the oricon top 100 every yr.

hikki holds #1, 2 for the bet selling original albums!

winterkill: how r the sales #'s disappointing?
akurei: was that supposed to be sarcasm?

as mentioned, there will be 4 new albums joining the overall top 100 chart:
ORANGE RANGE- musiQ sold about 2,637,000+ (#32)
Ketsumeishi- Ketsu no Police 4 sold about 1,930,000+ (#72)
Def Tech- Def Tech sold about 1,720,000+ (#96)
Ken Hirai- Single Collection has sold about 1,750,000+ (#90)

pretty interesting, I always knew Ayu would be pretty high up there, but I thought her albums were somewhat closer to each other on the ranking

Whoops, no, not the sales. I forgot to explain why it's disappointing — it's the fact that albums used to sell a lot more and none of her newer albums are up on the list.

Interesting, but I thought Namie's (older) albums would be a LOT higher on that list. Oh well. . .

A LOT higher? It's the 12th best-selling album in Japan! The 2nd biggest music-market in the world where thousands of albums are released every year.

But, in the end of 1996, it was the third best-selling album of Japan ever [after Atomic Heart, from Mr.Children and globe first album).

^ Well, I meant 181920 really. I know being within the top 100 is great, but being number 99 is a bit surprising. Of course, I haven't seen the total units sold for that album.

Oh, I see. But it was a compilation and it was released right after she announced she was pregnant, at the end of the year, so it had only a few months to sell, because then she was out of the spotlight.

well yea....the only newest album that made it to the top 50 was musiQ, but there are a couple more that have made it to the top 100. which does still mean that albums do sell, but ur rite, not as much as they used to.
