I feel like some people don't look at what they type before they submit it. When people post up sales from her recent single or album sales, they're always replying with "" or "She can do better!"

The truth is -- Ayumi can't or doesn't have control over her sales.

It's her fans. If she's losing fans, it's the fans fault. They lost out on a good artist. A singer or band can't always reign in the Entertainment industry FOREVER. People move on, and as sad as it seems, Ayu will one day retire also, whether people like it or not.

It's the reality.

You could tell it was comming? I agree with Brittany, she cant be at the top forever.

I always liked her story and lyrics first and foremost, the beats come 3rd, so I think even if her style lacks I'll still be a fan. And plus a lot of singers don't get good sales and they are still fairly popular.

No star can stay in the spotlight/at the top forever...they are humans as well. But like what others have said, Ayu does not have control over record sales or whatnot. Maybe more people are turning to other singers for entertainment now instead of Ayu.

For me, I think I won't ever "lose interest" in Ayu..she's the only singer I am willing to buy CDs of nowadays [money is tight eh].

First of all, I didn't even know you, Akurei, weren't like a strong fan of hers. I don't doubt it will reach the 1 mill mark cause in time it will. can I ask why she was not in your top ten until now?

not me! i don't care if she releases an album and i'm the only person in the whole world that buys it, as long as its a quality album i'll still have faith in ayumi. i think its natural for her sales to decline, and i hate seeing it when it does happen, but just becaus of that, it does not affect the fact that i am a fan of hers. i mean, i'm a member here because ayumi is my favorite artist, no question about it...and she's been my favorite artist for going on 4 years at least. her sales are not going to affect that. and also, her sales are still quite good...i mean there are other artists that sell so much less, but we don't define them by that...i think people here tend to define ayumi by how much she can sell...and that should not be the case.

I don't know why, but lately... people are not liking her releases. I guess we just have to get used to Ayu's new style. People seems to never be satisfied with anything Ayu releases... I believe in Ayu. I know she will reach a million copies, but I guess this time, it's gonna take longer than she used to.

I guess ayu's growing more and more in Akurei's heart as time goes by. There might be no reason at all. When you like a person you dun need to find a definite reason. Same goes with when you hate a person (sometimes...).

This applies to ayu's situation in Japan now. Her single sales not doing good because
1) Some people out of 700 thousand people kinda get bored to her/her music/her style (if her singles sold arond 1 million copies on average before)..
2) Some just hate her now (out of those 700K people again)
3) Some just feel like buying the albums are good enough for supportin ayu (you can't say fans who not buying singles are bad fans rite?)
4) Some are just broke. They can't afford every single..
5) Some hates cd... They love no-shape-at-all mp3s...

yeah... same reasons for albums... Out of those 5 reasons, you can't really make an absolute excuse for why they dun like her music on Reason #1. Reason #2 just shows that humans just love and hate for no reason somehow...

Yes it's true, Ayu has been around for ages - maybe too long for a typical Japanese artist. Most artists after a few years just get forgotten and have a small fanbase and sell really poorly. Ayu in comparison was lucky. She still sells at an average around 300,000 copies which is a lot when other artists who are popular and fresh struggle to reach those sales.

So yeah. I do have a feeling that she will eventually sell a million copies even if it will takes ages - probably months but yeah she'll eventually get to sell a million.

I don't think ayu is going downhill at all!! I think the reason for (miss)understood not saling as fast as my story is because ayu hasn't been on tour yet. I believe last year the tour started pretty fast right after she released her album. So I'm sure her album will break one million soon in the future!!

I've never doubted ayu what so ever. Even though I haven't been her fan for the longest time, I must admit that she is my favourite jpop artist out of them all. I think it bugs me a lot when people were saying how (m)u is going to SUCK and she's gonna do bad with this album when they only heard the few seconds of her previews. I had always thought that this album was going to do very well but we just need to wait for her "older" fans to discover that. Just because she tried a different genre of music doesn't mean she's going DOWN or going to do bad with it. Ayu can't stay with the same genre forever! Nothing is forever. If she stayed the same genre from 98 to now, people will be saying how she's boring, her style never changes [kinda like Nakashima Mika (no offence)].

Kind of off topic-ish but I don't think I've ever doubted her.. EVER!

I have every expectation to see (m)u reach a million...I just think it'll take a while.

I've never doubted Ayu's ability as an artist. In fact, I think she's better than ever. And while she can never stay at the top, I hope to continue to never doubt her.

i for one had NEVER EVER doubt ayu. i've been with her since 1999, i had heard about lots of negative stuff, but they never get to me. about her sales, it could reach 100,000. but not so fast, maybe in another 4 weeks. part of reson might be due to the poorly made cover.

Ayu slowly is fading from me.
Mhm.
I used to have to listen to atleast 3 Ayumi songs per day, ATLEAST.
Now, i can last a whole day without her
But i always think.
After i'm done listening to Utada,
After i'm done listening to Ai,
After i'm done listening to Kumi, Namie, Aikawa, etc,
I always come crawling back to Ayu
Iv'e been listening to her longer than any JArtist, and i do believe she'll always be at the top for me.
Even if i start to love another language music, i know Ayu will always be my #1.
She's just fading because iv'e listened to her sooo many times.
I take a break, and listen to Ayu again. Maybe with a slight different tone, a concert rip maybe? Or a remix? But It's Ayu.
So i don't think i have to worry.
And, i don't find myself much in the DL section either, iv'e already downloaded everything i want.

And to those fans who get sick of her and once called themselves "True Fans", were probably never true fans.
I think of being a fan a lifelong thing
Odd....

well... I still listen to ayu everyday practically.. along w/ hikki, and now plus kumi as well. it depends on if ai-chan has new song or not. i dun skip the first three's songs even they're like 3 or 4 months old from my shuffle... but i skip most ai's songs because they're just too "old" (like.. hehe... 3 months before?)

i always think (m)u is really good (cuz i like LOVEppear style... lots of single materials in an album). the only thing i dun really like is the cover.. that's all. (i dun hate it tho)

I have hope for Ayumi! Just like you Akurei, Ayu is in my top 10 along with Jpop queens Mika Nakashima, Namie Amuro, and Koda Kumi, etc. But Ayu is my no.1. I support her music no matter what. And (miss)understood is definitely one of Ayu's top 3 albums ever. We can't control her sales, I guess, but we can support Ayu in our own ways-money or not. I personally support Ayu in any way of my ability. Doubting her sales is a useless/childish thing to do...when you're a fan..

I doubt her sales and the fickle audience in Japan, not her abilities. And she's number 2 on my top 10 list, that Ayu.

Agreed, it is annoying to see so many people bring down the album. Some people have no hope, some didn't even give the album a chance. Really, I don't see the big deal even if she doesn't sell 1 million. Besides, of course she won't sell 1 million- BAM! just like that. Didn't MY STORY take about a year to sell 1 million?
