I don't get why people would be disappointed if Ayu does come out to have gotten surgery. She's no different from who she was before.. so.. why would people be like 'oh no she has surgery ;-; my ayu that does not smoke or do antyrhing bad!'.

:x I wonder if people even consider Ayu human.. I know I don't HAHAHA. [well, in the way that she's so far off from me that it's like she's a goddess... I live in the US okay?! xD]

I am now going to post the post to end all posts about ayu and whether or not she's had plastic surgery.

Now, ALOT can be done with makeup. In fact, almost anything. (See ANY kevyn aucoin book and you'll see what I mean.) So I've done my best to point out things that are hard (if not impossible) to fake with makeup. Alot of these things could be retouched, but feel free to post photo-rebuttals of anything I say or show here: I wanna get to the bottom of this so these posts stop.

First off, a general face overview. I tried to find photos where she was at about the same angle and with very non-dynamic lighting for pretty much all these comparisons, so here's the face:

So, how did she get from her 1995 face to her present face?

My (amateur) analysis: Obviously her eyebrows & hair are much lighter (the eyebrows can do so much to a face... they're also plucked differently, to come down more towards her nose than they used to). But what here isn't just makeup? The bag under her eyes has disappeared, the top eyelid seems to be more deep-set (more "western" looking), her chin seems like it sticks out more, but maybe that's just her hand under her face making her chin look smaller in the first one? Hmm. Let's investigate further.

Case #1: The Lips

This was one I thought for AGES she'd had done, especially since her lips in the Aube Crush Pearl CM & Depend on you video look alot smaller and more uneven than they do now. Guess it's all just pout & lip gloss!
My Analysis: No work done here, apparently! Moving on...

Case #2: The Eyes.

Another one I'm uncertain of. Here, the bags under her eyes are gone even in the 1995 picture. They ARE there most of the time, but i DID try to give non-believers that ayu's had surgery the benefit of the doubt here. The 2003 pic is also one in which ayu's eyes don't look all that "western". It's a candid shot, too, from a Panasonic press conference. So unretouched.
My Analysis: Hard to say. Maybe she had them done, but then again maybe Ayu tapes her eyes & uses Preperation H for the bags underneath.

Case #3, The Cheeks.

I hadn't even thought of this as something she'd had done until I did the searching for this post. Her cheeks look more sunk in on every 3/4 pic I've found, and her cheeks look almost perfectly rounded on older 3/4 pictures. This is easily done with the removal of a back molar, not even really plastic surgery.
My Analysis: Ayu said bye-bye to some back teeth. Which brings us to...

Case #4: The Teeth!

They're definitely more aligned relative to how further in front some of the teeth are (ayu's lateral incisors were a bit further back from her incisors & canines before), but the bottoms of her teeth still weren't aligned properly as of 2003. Not a huge change but it did make a big difference on her face.
My Analysis: Probably not caps or braces; not enough done. But it almost definitely looks like she wore a retainer for awhile.

Case #5: The Nose, part 1.

I think this is only a TINY change, but it makes a big difference. I think the tip looks higher up in more recent pictures, while the bridge seems a BIT crooked towards the top and the tip a bit lower in older pictures. (Sorry for the quality of the first picture, it was the only one i found where her head was tilted at the right slightly-down angle that all the others were. Rocking her head up or down too much would have made the tip look higher or lower.)
My Analysis: I think she definitely had her nose done... see the next case for more detail.

Case #6: The Nose, part 2, and The Chin/Neck area.

This group of pictures proves alot to me. Ignore the lips here, they're different in all three cuz of her position. But first off, the bridge of ayu's nose seems to be actually built up. In western culture it's normal to go smaller, but I've heard of women doing this in asia. I guess it's a more western thing. Not sure. Anyway, you can also see that her nostrils are slightly less "triangular", they're more rounded off. (If you look at all her idol pics and, say, the "Free & Easy" single cover, you can see the difference pretty clearly.) And this, I think, is the biggest difference. She had a MUCH less pronounced chin & jaw line before. Her chin sticks out further now, her neck goes further back. I really didn't notice that before today either! That's the thing that makes the most difference, I think.
My Analysis:Nose DEFINITELY done; not much, but done. Chin worked on for definition.

Actually, Ayu still has bags underneath her eyes. The one on the right is from a photoshoot, so that they generally brush out. Look at this picture from live:

She's still popular with the agegroup of your class: their reaction could have been led by the teacher's presentation and choice of image rather than a general dislike or belief that Ayu has had surgery.

She just looks too perfect for them to believe it's natural. It may all come from the fact that only rarely does anyone see a nonmadeup/non-enhanced picture of her.

I absolutely love her 'unreal' image in that CM, I WANT a lifesize promo cardboard cut-out for my room.

...... I think she just looks like she got surgery because she's a grown woman now. People's faces change shape for the most part because they lose weight and thin up a bit more than they used to be. But that's just my opinion.

Now, onto the real topic of this post, I think that Ayumi has and always will be a beautiful person, a stunning face and body or not. I don't understand why people have to be classified as 'beautiful' nowadays just because of how they look. Why not take the chance to listen to her music and watch her performances? People shouldn't, as they say, judge a book by its cover. Just because they don't think Ayumi is beautiful on the outside doesn't mean she's not beautiful on the inside.

People get their chins done alot... that's an injection or rebuilding (not sure of the material) through this sorta "scar" not too far back under the chin, it's kinda like... a line before the neck officially starts. Mine's pretty pronounced, i dunno about some other people. But Marilyn Monroe (when she was still Norma Jean Baker) had hers done in a similar manner.

And Kikaru, thanks for the other pics... yeah, that's probably all preparation H, retouching, and makeup. Might have had her top eyelid taped though... still not 110% sure there. Might just be wide-eyed posing alot of times.

The clothes that she's wearing in that picture make her boobs lift up more (EVER HEARD OF A PUSH UP BRA IN JAPAN?!

) and honestly, I think people are just jealous of Ayu, or just plain out hate her because they feel the need to or some crap.

It's the work of airbrushing.

Well. I wouldn't deny that she has surgery if we found out..

But this post wasn't about 'omg she hasz surgery!' but rather someone seeking for discussion about the reactions and etc of their class :p

About her lower chin/neck area.. is it possible she lost a lot of weight and that happened? Just curious since at times, people who lose a lot of weight for whatever reason look so different from themselves years before~

^Well, Ayu's face is more defined because she lost puppy fat on her cheeks, which is normal because teenagers tend to loose puppyfat as they get older. I know because I used to have a really round face -_-'

It's hard to say whether Ayu actually had surgery, because well, you can't really compare the 1995 pics to airbrushed magazine pictures. I always find that she looks a lot different live than in magazines...

Yup, Ayu still has bags under her eyes. Upon magazine pictures they generally just brush it out, but looking at her live...something tells me that if she does had her bags moved, she needs to get her money back because they certainly didn't do such a thorough job of removing it...

truthfully, i like her music and the way she presents herself. and (from what i've seen) i like her sense of humor of and her personality. whether she had plastic surgery or not, it really doesn't matter to me. she's still AWESOME! ^_^

I have eyes almost exactly similar to hers in the 1995 picture, my eyes aren't even in a sense...I have the 'lazy eye' along with that I'm one of the 50% of asians that don't have an eye crease (double eyelid) my mom has told me to get surgery to have it, but nah. My left eye is wider than my right eye because the crease of my left eye is in another position. Blhaspheljsmy (that surgery) is a surgery that will even out your eyes and give you "DOUBLE EYELIDS!" and blah, I'm a guy, I don't care much except that I really hate my eyes being uneven...lol, looking in a mirror my right eye is just UGH

but yes...it could be possible she had surgery or eye tape as an everyday necessity...but as an artist with so much publicity, I don't believe she would want to do that everyday, especially if she's sweating during her concerts...so my theory = yes, do I still love ayumi? = yes...do I commend her for the gruesome things they do during eye surgery = yes...(I saw pictures and boy were they gruesome)

Delirium: thank you taking the time to dig up and post all those pics. I still have a hard time seeing the nose thing...but you do make a good observation with the chin. Even so, it's true that the more popular you become, the more money can be spent on retouching your photos...retouching doesn't just mean smoothing out skin and stuff, it means shaving off fat and defining features. I feel like the 2004 profile pic you posted of her especially is probably more a show of retouching than anything else....also one's facial features and such continue to define themselves as they grow older. I wouldn't be surprised if any difference in her face is to the fact that she's moved out of her teens and into adulthood.

Anyway, it makes me feel happy to hear people supporting Ayu. Thanks everyone ^_^

thats the exact same thing my friend in japan said when i visited. she used to be a huge ayu fan until after rainbow, but i dont think ayu's appearance has changed that much since rainbow, just different styles and stuff. i guess the rumors there are huge or theres alot of nasty tabloids about ayu.

Wow, I don't read tabloids in my own country and I'm not even sure where to find them in Japan, hehe, but I wouldn't doubt that any existing tabloids would have lots of fun spitting on Ayu's image.

Maybe she didn't like the Rainbow album and it just made her start thinking bad things about Ayu? XD I honestly don't think she has changed that much...if anything I thought she changed a lot during My Story because she seemed to want to have a rocker image.

Ok, i totally agree w/ the airbrush stuff. anyone on the front of a mag or in a commercial is gonna need some airbrushing... nobody is perfect... even Ayu (tho i kinda hate to admit it lol) isn't perfect *shrugs*
just cuz she looks phenomenal, doesn't mean she had a butt-load of surgery done!

thanks for the post & the pics , Delirium-Zero. I'm not convinced about the chin & nose tho. her head is tilted less on the 2nd pic , and there's like 10 years between the 1st and the 3rd pic. Ayu's face has lost a lot of 'babyfat' on that time too so why not from her neck too ? also the 3rd chin pics looks to me like it's been airbrushed , and they might have shaped her chin too. they do that a lot for celebrities faces and bodies in addition of hiding skins imperfections

I don't think Ayu has had any surgery yet , but I don't think it's a big deal either way. like most female celebs she probably is going to have surgery done when she's in her 30s tho , if she days in the limelight that is.

ugh.... you can tell that picture is obviously heavily airbrushed and made to look perfect.. she looks practically like a machine there herself.. which may have been the intention..
the only thing i think Ayu has ever had done is getting her teeth fixed.. more power to her.. at least she doesn't look as different and strange as michael jackson!

.. i should compare pictures of me from 95 to pictures of me from 03-05.. people will probably say i've had surgery as well.. even sometimes i have bags and i dont..
guess its all a matter of opinion..

Makeup & airbrushing are the 2 biggest things in the entertainment industry - it's done to everyone - everywhere - in the media, regardless of who you are. As said above "no one is perfect..." but then again... what is perfection?...

Honestly I don't believe she's had anything done... she's grown alot since those early pic's, looks exactily the same to me minus a lil bit of weight. Also... if you watch her tv performance's you will notice that she wear's a clear strapped push up bra alot (even with shoulderless tops) which accounts for the "growning boob's" (that just sounds stupid even explaining it lol). As with Ayu's teeth... the camera used (video or conventional) and the angle being shot make's a difference as well, if you've seen the interview on "Hamasaki Ayumi" or even the pre PV clips you can see this.. as her teeth look as they did in her teen years. (I'll grab some screencaps when I have some free time)

What it all comes down to is this...
When your as big as Ayu is your going to have people who don't like you... hell I have people that don't like me and well... I'm just me lol. Comes with the territory. People have there opinions and that's there right as humans. Dosen't matter what "they" think - We all love Ayu and that's all that matters!

Back to the "perfection" issue again for a sec...
My personal view of Ayu is that of perfection - but these are my eye's and that's how I choose to see her - no amount of banter will ever change that.

Seriously though I herd her music a good while before I seen a photo of her, and fell in love with it immeaditly (and the music is what matters right?). Looks are no substitue for talent anyway... and Ayu just happens to have both

I always thought her boobs were kinda big for her size. They always seem really perky when shes wearing bathing suits and what not..

But, then again what do I know? Maybe shes just lucky to be that thin and have some boobs.

Oh, yeah i'm not saying that shes had work done on her boobs. But, I have thought of it.
