I believe.. was a song for a drama.. of course it'd sell a bunch more than 'usual' :p Drama songs are strangely.. 'hot.' Just look at Seishun Amigo and Jupiter or w/e x3

Startin' was the tie up for a videogame and Born to be was the theme song for the japanese tv edition of the olympic games ... X.x.. i guess thats more than "usual"
i just find it really weird how Ayaka's debut single sold more than the 39th single from the jpop queen x_x

Well, the 1st half of the year tends to be weaker since not a lot of artists release that much. It tends to pick up in the 2nd half of the year.

Wans't "forgiveness" used as a drama? But yeah, usually drama and even movie tie-in singles do better than normal CM tie-in singles.

It depends how good the drama is and how much hype that it has. The drama that the Ayaka song was in, Rinbukyoku~Rondo~, was the most acclaimed show last season. Whenever Ayu does a dorama tie in, she seems to pick the wrong ones.

thanks for the updates! i guess they're pretty good for female sales. i guess the charts are male-dominated nowadays. but a lot of Johnny's Ent on there! =)

No. Those were like 2 months pre-single release. They weren't as well done and Ayu's song was only in the intro and stuff for the other thing.. :/

It's not her. It's her marketing manager people who decide what tie-ins go where.. :/
I don't think Ayu'd be like 'I want to tie this song into this. xD'

I'm sure she puts some input into it and has final say. She is quite in control of her career compared to other female artists in Japan.

well, as far as album ranking for the yearly thing; ayu did a pretty good job considering that (miss)understood was a solo-artist album & wasn't a compilation. And like I've noticed now looking at these half-year sales; NOBODY is really selling very high except for groups/duos.

So with that I say, good job Ayu. At least you're on the list. Hikki's name was nowhere in sight and I find that a little sad myself considering the Passion was a pretty good song to me. But then again, isn't Hikki more R&B-ish??? And what about Namie Amuro??? I would've thought for sure the Queen of Hip-pop would've been in the top thirty for albums...

I still think she's doing pretty well, especially (miss)understood since it's not even a "special" album or of the like XD...not to forget to mention the declining number for sales in the market in general too XD...^^

i am still rather disappointed that (miss) understood did not hit a million. thats so not typical of her albums. i feel that its even better than RAINBOW.

I thought Endless Sorrow was one too. I'm not sure.

Not bad for someone way past her prime and 8 years old. It's still fitful to call her queen, as no other solo artist these days can last this long. Hikki and Amuro are past their prime too, but don't have the success Ayu has now. I remember at one point and time, all three artists could sell out a concert within 15 minutes of opening. Now, I believe only Ayu can do that. So she may not rank as high, but at least she's still on it.

You're suprised at that? MM and H!P in general have fallen so low in the last few years. Them selling over 100,000 of anything nowadays is a gift.

There are several reasons that you could argue. But I definitely believe that the foremost reason are the WOTA(the obsessed Japanese male fans of MM) and the company behind MMs willingness to pander to them. They have driven away the broader audience that MM used to have.(more kids and women) And have made it uncool to like MM. Ever seen the dorama Densha Otoko? It's like that.

was hoping that the new single would be as amazing as her past other capital letter singles and give her the boost she needs for 2006... but seems like its just gonna be an ordinary single

Hikki is in the top 50. But her album is going to be released soon, so we'll probably see her name in the album list.

Namie Amuro has only released 1 single between those dates. And that was CSCEIS, which after her 1st week, was the final cut-off date. Queen of Hip-Pop was released in 2005, so it's on the 2005 list, not on the 2006 one. (It sold ~450k)
