Maybe because it gives her the ability to lean back and half sit, while she's still standing upright, which makes it easier to sing, but is also kind to your feet. And I like the position it puts her in.

Her other JEWEL performance was the opposite, white when talking and black when singing.

My mom dresses like that and she's in her mid-50s. Mind you, she's a woman of socialite stature.
