Airbrushing really is very simple and quick and would completely cover the tattoo.

And then the reason to hide it is as I said before (in case my post ended up getting missed at the bottom of the last page^_^) - Tattoos are not widely accepted in Japan - they are associated with the Yakuza. I've even seen establishments that bar entry to people with tattoos.(usually bath houses but other establishments like Bars as well.)

That's a good point and could have had a little something to do with it. I don't think it would have had an effect on the younger crowd buying the album, but anyone 30+ it may have. Of course no one would think that Ayu is actually a Yakuza member(lol), but a lot of people view those that have tattoos as troublesome people and certainly not a role model; it's ridiculous I think. It's kinda like how when Ayumi was a kid, she was thought of as a problem child because she often died her hair.

i don't think Ayu actually has the tattoo, if she does it makes no sense for her to cover it up. if she's afraid of showing it off then put it somewhere more private or somewhere more easily covered up. it really makes no sense to get a tattoo in a highly visible place and not showing it off.
