I won't even say HEAVEN sold pretty well (in terms of cd sales in 2004). It's normal to see ayu selling over 300K before she showed us BnD/Pride (and BnD has, well, Panasonic tie-in). and since BnD her sales kinda fluctuates a bit.. from Bnd first week 70K --> Startin'/BTB ~110K --> BLUE BIRD ~160K --> glitter ~110K.
B&D/Pride sold considering people knew about miss album that will be released a month later and since then it kinda ruined... but generally sales decrease anyway. so It's not like it helps.

Yeah but if it's something like 1LOVE (normal ayu song), I'm sure that 2004 year end single wouldn't sold under 100K..

Anyhoo... waiting for ayu to step on the no. 1 place again

BLUE BIRD had BF that even wasn't the main song a panasonic tie-in and was the best selling single of ayu in 2006 with around 260,000 (after Startin' that sold 188,000).
One of the reasons why STEP you/is this LOVE? sold so much was because of the my name's WOMEN PV; that single actually has some value to it.

As for BLUE BIRD, one of the reasons was because of the 3rd additional version.

Yeah and it was voted by her TA fans as their favourite, if I remember well. She should do it again.

Probably the sales will be:

#1 Day - 100,000 copies
#1 Week - 160,000 copies
#2 Week - 45,000 copies
#3 Week - 20,000 copies

The single is kinda awesome! XD

Hmm...u have point about that....but I think it would have been different in Ayu's case. I mean, how long has it been since we've heard a ballet from Hikki...jeez what 2004 or 2005 (I think!) I believe many people good excited for Hikki's song bcuz yea, it's a huge tie-in for her but it's a ballet and Hikki makes good impressions on people when she sings ballet. (IMO)

Ayu, on the other hand, was like right at the end of the year (Jewel...I believe) I think if it was song by Ayumi, it wouldn't have been as exciting or just another one of those already heard ballets from Ayu. I'm not tryin' to make this Ayu vs. Hikki thind bcuz even if Kumiko performed the insert song, I don't think it would've been special at all. Sorry to say this but can u imagine hearing Kumiko's voice every episode??? Seriously, could u?

B&D/Pride sold 133,000 the only singles of ayu that sold less than 100,000 are poker face, YOU and For My Dear... =P
All the rest are Gold, platinum, X2 Platinum, Million etc.

It's not easy to tell why something sells a LOT and some other singles sell ordinarily (for the artist) and except for the fact that some movie tie ins always are the biggest sellers, it's impossible to tell virtually. You can't even tell which movie tie ins will sell the most upfront, sometimes things end up flopping. AYu has sold a lot with very different tie ins and I think in her case, because of the heavy advertisement going on no matter what, it's more depending on whether the public actually like the song or not. Of course a good visual tie in helps, as the audience will associate the music with that visual.

Ayu has been trying different things, sometimes with luck (evolution/M) and sometimes not so lucky (B&D), this move will be exciting to see. I have higher hopes for this than B&D, not only because B&D was jinxed by the album, but because these type of moves to a more edgy style have proven more successful in the past. The first one the transition from dance and pop to the style of I am.. and the other example being STEP you back in 2005. I know STEP you was definetly pop and not rock, but it was a step away from the usual gentle dancey pop of fairyland and glitter.

glitter and fairyland are both summer songs though (they both were released on summer) and they're not ayu's main style. (Thanks god) and I love them though.

Why do people do this everytime a NINKI is come out.
NINKI are not related to sales at all. They are not a prediction of first day sales. They are not a prediction of total sales. NOTHING.
Purely a survey for the ORICON magazine, which is usually an OK reflection of who will chart the highest that week, and then who will have the next highest new entry.

OMG! there is tohoshinki...i remember that their last single sales very WELL in the first week, and drop down very fast in second week...i think their last single sales higher than glitter/fated
hopefully ayu fans in japan will buy her new single like crazy, so it can keep her number one single strike
