Yeah, but there's a difference between teenage girls and seven years old (which I'm guessing is how old they are...I think some might be younger...)

I blame the parents.

Sigh. Although we can all say "this is wrong" and everything (and I agree), Japan's morals/ethics are a lot different than what we're all used to.

i think everyone has a part in the blame as to watch we just witnessed. kumi, for not being like "ugh, this is weird". companies for holding this contest or whatever and accepting the videos. parents for allowing their children to act like prositots. the hosts patrionizingly supporting the girls in their very inappropriate behaviour. japanese society for not being outraged at that, and for, in some ways, created the image of erokawaii/erokakkoi. there is nothing wrong with sex, or being sexual or any of that at all. however, it is something when we glorify children for acting in those sort of ways when they can't even comprehend the act in itself.

I guess. But the only difference is their age....

I agree with soysaucestar about the difference society. You don't hear the audience going silent or anything, you just hear a lot of "kawaiii~"s...

Well, the age is the problem here. If the kids dancing were 11 or twelve, or older, there wouldn't be half as much reaction. And there's a huge difference between kids and teenagers.

Actually, from what I've heard, Japanese culture is actually more conservative than most western cultures. We're only seeing their pop culture, which is a part of the Japanese culture, but not all.

Japanese culture is a lot more conservative, but when it comes to their pop culture, things that would be 'shocking' to people living in the US is actually 'not so bad' in Japan. For instance, as we can see from these clips, the whole 'sex sells' thing is not such a big deal in Japan as it is here in the US.
