so you base your idea of a queen on sales/popularity which is fine, because as i said we probably have different ideas of what makes a "queen".

Wouldn't call Kumi a queen figure, her popularity is already leveling down to a stable fanbase after a couple of years of popularity. Utada is more like a high sales figure... not an all rounded artist like Ayu.

I know, but Kumi's popularity never matched Ayumi or Utada's. It's just a fact. Look at the records Hikki has as far as sales. That 3 million in one week is a world record. WORLD. RECORD.

What else would one base it off of besides popularity, fame, sales, etc.

quality of music, style, voice, personality, the impact they've had on the music industry of japan... ?

if you base it on sales and popularity alone then that would mean anybody could virtually be a queen.

So someone's a queen because you like their music and style and personality? And like I said, Kuu's impact on the music industry hasn't been nearly as been as Utada Hikaru or Ayumi Hamasaki. I don't even think Koda Kumi would say she has been as big as them at any point in her career.

Wait, where is the logic in this? I'm not even going to touch this one.

lol...........

i'm not asking you to touch anything. i thought the topic creator wanted to know who we considered to be queens of asian music. i put in my two cents.

who cares if kumi hasn't been as popular as ayu and utada? doesn't make her any less of an artist than they are. i admire artists based on their work, not how many albums they sell or how other people like them. she is a queen in my eyes. i am sorry if my opinion is wrong because you don't agree with it.

lol

is not point of discussing this I think

^^

everyone is good in their own ways... every single fan believes that their favourite artist is the QUEEN

so yeah

this thread was opened just to make everyone crazy
xDD

and if we talk about real Queens of music in Japan

thats ayumi hamasaki, with her unbeatable musical career, utada hikaru and her best selling album of all times (in japan, etc) plus all her musical career too, and namie amuro (queen of fashion, and style ^^ and other survivor of time )

You can't say that. So let Imagine Kumi peaked around the same time Ayu did.

I KNOW her sales would be GREAT!

Im sorry but as of NOW Kumi own'z. Namie & Ayumi's time came and gone.

Even to my friends in japan. When they talk to me how BIG Kumi is over there.

I love Namie & I would love to call her to QUEEN but sadly she isn't

that's not even the case here, but ok..

this topic wasn't made to make anyone crazy, and i haven't seen anyone go crazy yet. it's all based on opinion so of course not everyone is going to agree

LOL

hmmm...

ayu could come anytime and she could still have pretty good sales!!

same with koda

it doesnt matter the time when they became popular, the most important thing is their music, etc

personally, I believe that the music industry in Japan needed to have ayumi, utada, namie and koda

all of them are different, its pretty hard to compair them

just as america got different artists (britney, rihanna, shakira, madonna, etc)

they all do different things!

and theyre all good!

Here you go.
Here is a chart of people's favorite/liked japanese artists in 3 big places in China which comes to check popularity.

Yellow: Shanghai
Green: Beijing
Red: Guangzhou

This is the source:
http://news.searchina.ne.jp/disp.cgi...0411_001.shtml

(thanks for Ayumiko who brought it earlier to the forum)

The top 3 are:
1. ayu
2. hikki (with a big difference behind)
3. namie

We also have to take in calculation that ayu performed already 3 times in Hong Kong since 2007, twice in Shanghai and 3 times in Taiwan (which is another country) in big arenas. The only asian country which I think ayu isn't as popular in is South Korea but I don't know much about it maybe it's half and half there (though it's not a music buyer country anyway).
On the 2nd spot it's hikki or namie.
hikki because she must be selling records better than namie in Asia but it's also not 100% since namie is the one who went to Taiwan a few times in a part of her tours and performed in small halls so it's hard to tell...
Those 3 (ayu, hikki and namie) are all popular in Japan.
kumi is only popular in Japan and South Korea and I don't know how much sales are given to her there.
