Yeah, my father asked me that a while back. I told him that she's basically an amazing person who writes true lyrics. Beautiful person too, inside and out. Of course her music is amazing too .

I think, one of my friends have asked me that before. Though i gave her my top 3 reasons about why i like Ayu, i still don't think that's the appropriate answer. I told her that i like Ayu because she's pretty, she writes meaningful lyrics and she has a good attitude.

I've thought about this for a long time. And i still can't think of the answer which i think would be appropriate.

I like her because...

1) I love her lyrics. One teacher said to me "everyone can talk about politics, about economy, about social problems. The difference between one prepared person from someone who is not are the arguments and the concepts they use to explain why do they favor something" many performers talk about love. But they talk about it in a very average, shallow way so it can make it to the charts. Ayu doesn't. Ayu writes in a very poetic, deep manner. Her thoughts are usually very deep, product of a significant reflection.

1.1.- Ayu is a sensitive person. She speaks very honestly and she doesn't hesitate showing her pain. Usually, pop lyrics to me are shallow because they blab about nothing. She is not like that. Also, 'cause she is very sensitive and i am sensitive and Love is an important subject to me (like her) i can relate to her when she talks about love, happiness, or sadness.

2) I love her music. I've read in interviews she makes her music according to her lyrics, and what she tries to express. She does not make music thinking " holy s/hit; i gotta make music that everyone is going to hear" she is deeply influenced by rock and i love rock. She also loves orchestras and i love classical music, and though she doesn't exactly make classical music, the effect of the orchestra usually makes amazing results. Also, i love the fact that she is not afraid of experimenting and doesn't make music that "everyone is making" (ex: hip hip or r&b)just because everyone else is doing it. And the results of combining music to match the lyrics are usually amazing. I mean, she does great music.

3) i Love her image. sometimes she is kawaii, like a little girl, or maybe she will wear a super cute dress, or she'll dress in jeans and a t-shirt. or look fierce. But she always look good to me. she is soooooo fashionable and she's always trying and experimenting. She is creative in her style and in her music, in my opinion

4) and last but not least, i wrote before that she manages to be deep and marketable at the same time. that's a very rare atribute. but she manages to be both. She can write something amazing, and within the next minute she is looking great and setting trends with something she is wearing. And probably the best part of that, it the fact that is not something made up. I think she is truly herslef in all her phases, she is authentic. She manages to be a balanced artist with constrasts of deep/marketable cute/dark, you know what i mean.

Well... those are my reasons, that's why i love her. anyway, i only can speak for myself . i hope i made myself clear LOL

I'll say, I love Ayu because of her perfect performances. Ayu also is truly cute, sexy, pretty, and has almost the same height as me. I mean for the height is, a short woman like her also can be a millionaire. That case make me want to be someone and not to be anyone. Ayu make me feel good with her honest lyric and great music. Hear, watch, read about her make me happy with my day. She's inspires me a lot.

I normally say that Japanese is a beautiful languages, and then they laugh at me and talk something freakish Chinese-Taiwanese-something -.- So then I tell them about how it is good in songs with the consonant-vocal-consonant-vocal, and then they normally understand it better.. But they still think it's wierd.

This is the most difficult question that I answer every time people ask me about that. It's really hard to explain. But to make it shorter...

"She's just enigmatically different artist who captured my heart and the only person who kills my wallet."

Well, I will tell them I like Japanese song.
And Ayumi Hamasaki is my favourite J-pop singer.
She is beautiful and sweet. Besides,
I like to listen to her song because of her voices are very powerful & unique.

That how I will respond. Don't u agree?

I actually love it when people ask me why do I listen to Ayu's music.
I just say it's very different from US/UK pop, she puts more style into the music and Ayu reflects herself on her song easily, which makes her an Epic Singer. And at least she doesn't sing (rather shout in the song) about a random giant hole...

I usually respond that Ayu's music is just very high-quality music. Ayu-as-a-product is one of the best products I have ever seen in the music industry. There are few musicians who, despite the lack of OMGWHATATALENT!!!, have influenced the music of their time as much as Ayu have.
What's more is that her music completely lacks the things I got tired from in Western music - aggressiveness, sexsexsex in lyrics and visual images, lack of honest and very personal emotions.
When people tell me that I can't appreciate her lyrics because my Japanese is beginner's level I answer that the fact that not many people in my country can speak French did not stop Joe Dassin and Patricia Kaas from being some of the most beloved foreign singers here. After all, it's the overall feeling of the music that makes us like/hate it, not the factual information we get from lyrics.

Where do you live ?

And as a reply of the topic, I usually say that it is something you feel, not something you can explain with words. So, try it.

Urgh. Yeah, that's really annoying.
What's even more worse is when people classify you as "Wannabe Japanese"
for listening to Jpop or etc, when you are Japanese

I thought people would be beyond "but you don't understand the language" by now. Come on, it's 2009. You can chat with someone in Guam within an instant if you wanted to. We're global now. Just because you don't understand a language, doesn't mean you can't appreciate the music. It's not like her lyric translations aren't all over the web lol.

it depends on whether they ask the qns to find out more about ayu, or to sorta "insult" ayu.

if they wanna find out more about ayu, then i will tell that ayu has a really healthy image and really good lyrics. Although i dont understand, i can feel it. And she has a concert every year. She is sincere to her fans.

If they were like "ayu sucks! what do you like about her?". I will tell that out of so many J-pop Divas, who is still surviving? only ayu. the rest are slowly fading.

and kiss my a$$.
