The dated sound was a deliberate choice, too. I think a lot of the fans that dislike it don't realize that it was on purpose rather than just a cheap cop out or something. And to be fair, I wouldn't know it unless I'd read Yasuhiko Hoshino's comments in the Tell All book. But at the time I do think it was probably a bad move since they went with a sound that wasn't old enough yet to have gotten to "retro" status... so now that it's been so long, it DOES sound properly retro so I think fans are warming up to it more.

I do understand going with a slightly older style of music rather than going back to a retro-cool style, though. I mean Ayu's first image to the public was that mature-young-woman black pant suit look, so it made sense to go with a music style that would've appealed more to (and been more associated with) slightly more mature people. When ayu's handlers and producers read Ayu's lyrics & saw her work, they WERE mostly struck by her maturity & life experience rather than any youthful coolness she might have had, you know? So that aspect of her personality was probably what they most wanted to leverage when they were initially putting her image together.

I did not know this. It's super interesting. Thanks for sharing. It's always nice discovering new things about Ayu's career. How it all started and such. Thank you.

I thought I was the only one who loved this perfomance sure, her voice is not in the best condition here, but the emotion, the arrangement (and some memories of 2010) made this of my favorites.

The bass in snowy kiss is awesome. Especially in the verses section. The instrumental ver. with ayu.s backing vocals really showcases the beauty of the song. I loved it when it came out, I love it now. Sure, the "sayonara" parts are a bit tiring, but other than that, a great song. I love how some of ayu.s instrumental songs can stand as proper songs on their own.

OMG you guys I had the most horrible nightmare ever. Ayu was doing a worldwide tour, and the last show was in my city. The main show was in an arena, but the show also included parts performed on the streets (sometthing like a parade). First of all, when me and my friends went inside we saw the sixxxxx tracklist which was:
1. Step by Step
2. SAYONARA
3. Like It (or smth like that)
4. Summer Diary
5. ??
6. HANABI~episode III~

But when we were getting in the venue we realized that our tickets were nit valid and we wouldnt be able to get in. So we both went home super frustrated. When I woke up next morning I see in the news that "Japanese singer Ayumi Hamasaki was assaulted and killed by a fan". I remember every detail of it. It was during a Dearest performance, which was performed outside the venue and it involved dance routines with Shu-ya and even a kiss. The fan assaulted her before the kiss. There was also a huge celebrity funeral going on which to me looked theatrical and pathetic. It was so realistic and detailed that I was terrified when I woke up

I had a dream once where I saw Ayu live and she had some kind of mishap so she couldn't perform so I did for her. And I sang Voyage.

Lol since we are talking of dreams! I dreamt that i went to japan and found work as a staff member in an anonymous crew that turned out to be ayu's one! This was before ayu learning english well and timmy etc so they had hired me as a translator or smth. And i was there at one live in the backstage helping her between one act and the other. It was AMAZING

I've had a surprising number of dreams with her in them. I did have a dream once where I think I met her or saw her live or something and she was a terrible mood.

On another note, I had a whole summer where I dreamed of nothing but being the lover of the bass player from Girugamesh... Which was fun but somewhat terrifying. So, my dreams of Ayu aren't nearly as extensive as those. D:

And now The GazettE's becoming a regular thing in my dreams. I guess between the constant dreams of Girugamesh and the GazettE, dreams of Ayu feel kind of like a treat to me.

I dreamt of her a few times, going to weird concerts and such, or about new releases and songs. But i almost always dream being perfectly conscious that i'm an ayu fan, thinking of her songs, singing them etc in my dreams.

I've dreamt about Ayu at least twice. The dreams were about getting good seats at her concerts lol nothing special except for odd venues, for example a large lecture hall lol

I have dreamed of announcements maybe two or three, but never with concerts or meeting her. Actually, I don't even recall when (if) I last dreamt with a famous person, I usually have dreams only with those I know in person...
