It doesen't seem that such schemes are neccessary for Ai's popularity to grow. So I guess they think it's better to let her continue on like she does, instead of pushing her.

yeah. but her popularity isnt really growing on its own.. it's been relatively stable for a while.. I'm not saying that she isn't doing great, because she's doing pretty awesome, but I just think that if they just gave her that extra bit more, then she would be much more popular. oh and abut koda kumi, yeah the 12 single thing is a card that can only be played once. and even if the next album does really well, she'll have to return to the normal single release rate and she'll be out of the spotlight before we know it. come to think of it, I'm glad that they didn't choose to do that with Ai. The 12 single thing is making alot of people sick of koda kumi and alot of people are starting to dislike her because of it..

correct me if i'm wrong

2005
ayu
estimate
step you/is this love-300,000
fairyland -300,000
Heaven-300,000
B&D-100,000
if you add it all you have 1million, now why did i bring this up? i just think it was a waste "12 single koda kumi" cause i can bet it prob didnt even break 800,000 while having all 12 singles put together.correct me if i'm wrong but why limited some singles when its getting a huge campaign/Promotion ? i just think if Ai was the one in the place of kumi she could had sold 1.5 million with 12 singles put together if not 2million.. but i guess kumi was chosen for some reason if not avex is being run by idiots
2005 ayu singles
step you: 345k
fairyland: 317k
heaven: 327k
b&d: 132k
total: 1.121m

ku's 12 single project has raked in so far about 770k, this number is expected to increase as the non-limited singles r still selling. n i really doubt that ai couldve sold 1.5-2m as 9/12 singles were in fact limited to 50k.

also, i really DONT believe that this 12 single project was a waste, at all. avex got wut it wanted out of this project- to promote koda kumi (->to get new fans). avex didnt want ku to fade away after her best album, as many artists have done before (ie:mai k; hikki; BoA) so they went ahead w/the prokect w/ku. after all this, avex also got sustained sales from her. 'you' has become her 2nd best selling single, n 'No Regret' passed the 100k mark and is on the way in becoming her 4th best selling single. Best~first things~ is STILL selling. after adding all these numbers, koda kumi has already sold more than 1million units in the oricon 2006 year. thats quite an achievement. and w/another BEST album, that number will likely jump to 2million. y is it getting lots of promo even tho all but 3 r limited? well, im pretty sure its never done before so thats y. and if avex can get the name koda kumi stuck in ppl's heads, then they've already achieved their goal. also, ku was most likely chosen as her sales were increasing before ai's. her 2005 album, 'secret' did really well, selling past 500k. her following singles sold past 100k and to add on that, her 1st best album sold past 1m; that was enough to make the plan go thru.

i disagree. i think ai's popularity has grown substantially since SMILY/Biidama was released. i mean, 2 of her 3 2005 singles have passed 'ayu territory' (300k+) thats quite an achievement. also, her LOVE COOK is doing really well, the sales r less than 100k behind (m)u.

yeah, ai doesnt really need the 12 single project like ku does. ai's popularity is already growing w/the rite tie-ins to her songs and stuff.

I just looked at the 'Most Hated Female Celeb' thread. According to the thing, out of these 3 Ai is the most hated (at #11), followed by Ayu (#20) and Kumi (#28). I'm not sure who exactly they polled though..

I hope it stays around 5 000 copies or more weekly..

Somehow, I think after this 12 singles and Best second sessions album, Kumi has a big chance of fading away again. There might also be Kumi overkill, if it doesn't already exist.

Ai Otsuka's sales has been increasing, it shows that she's getting increasingly popular over time. So nice to see a ballad from her breaking 300 000 copies already.

well the 12 singles have gotten me more interested in Koda... but I sure wasn't about to spend that much money on limited... she a good singer but I don't think she has the quality Ayu has... you can't release 12 singles that fast and have the quality of a year working on them...

Ai is hated so? I haven't really listened to her... guess I should

I hope Ayu's sales do incease to around 10K for her tour! please please please

The 12 single issue itself will draw the attention of many people. Not sure if Kumi can maintain her sales after this though

Koda Kumi popularity in Japan is still very big. ~Second Seasons~ probably won't sell as well as her first compilation but it'll sell a lot, without a doubt. And I bet in 2001 people said the same thing for Ayu, that she'll fade soon because of overexposure.
