but oversaturation works. Thats why people do it.
look at AKB... oversaturation at its finest point. They are EVERYWHERE. My friends in Japan say they can not get away from them and its like they are being force feed it, and then they start liking it, because you cant help to like it. the fact is oversaturation is a type of marketing. |

Oversaturation once your peak is far over and people are tired of you is completely different. |

being tired of and not knowing you are around are 2 different things.
With people in japan you get two reactions so far. She's still making music? And she sounds terrible when she is on TV. (unless your a fan and you think you should be able to control her life, then that would be a third) Maybe she needs a bit of Oversaturation. In the past two years she has had what kind of promotion? A truck and 1 billboard. a few mags, 2 or 3 CMs, a few lives thrown in and your done. I don't think oversaturation would bring her back into the spot light (huge seller again) and would actually be a huge waste of avex's time and money, but I don't think it would hurt her career very much either. She may get some new fans, but thats about it. I would love to see her mini's huffer around the 200k mark and her albums do what Namie is doing. |

Namie was completely gone for years though and came back with a reinvention that suited the public's taste of that time(in other words: the sell-out tactic, which isn't a bad thing at all, she made good music with it and reached huge success with it)
The average Japanese sees Ayumi perform at least once every year (Kouhaku) and Ayumi made it quite clear she doesn't care about the public's wishes and opinions of her music anyways.

- Ayumi had 4 tv performances in popular shows, 1 tie-in with a successful drama, 1 big videogame tie-in... If people don't know she is releasing stuff, the lack of interest on her is more to blame than the actual lack of promotion... This promotion would be more than enough for Utada or Namie to get a hit after months or years without releases. Seeing Ayu's face everywhere would only help if people were actually interested by her releases, what isn't the case at all: "She's still making music?" = I don't care about her "And she sounds terrible when she is on TV." = I don't like her |

Namie has been heavily promoted this year maybe she has not done live TV but the promo was huge and began since the end of 2011 ! I don't know how many magazines and CM she has done since they annonce her 20th anniversery but it's quite huge ! That's why I don't agree when people say she has no promo ! Further more she was almost every morning in the TV News when they announced the release of Uncontrolled etc... |

I know nothing about Namie and her promotion. I dont follow her enough. As for her tie ins. Thats my point. everything you pointed out, which had a nice/huge tie in did WELL. FIVE should extremely well for only having 5 songs on it. the only difference between that and again (besides the 1 song) is the tie in. The same goes with HBYR. nice little drama = goods digital sales. So more promotion/oversaturation would be a good thing no matter how you look at it really. Also just to point out, I have a huge lack of interest for AKB, but because of their promotional tactics, I want to check it. And being bombarded with something proves that it works. |

Yes. Once or possibly twice. Would you look up AKB48 again if they bombarded you again next year? And the year after?

@mizuki-7
She is nowhere the promotion level Ayu had during her peak, for example, THAT was oversaturation... Namie is having a special year because of her anniversary and is promoting more than her usual, but people are actually interested enough on her for it to work. @TeamAyu2004 How beautiful you are is far from being a big hit... and I was talking about Song 4 U, not progress. |

@isthisLOL
they have been going since (being popular) 2010... its been 2 years and it looks like its going to be another stellar year for them next. Believe me I want them to go away (at least stop from selling the millions that they do). But, all im saying is that it works. AKB didnt just appear, they have been around for awhile and they will be around after all the mega selling. But they changed the way they did things, plastered themselves all over the place and BAMB they are not a hit making 48 little girl playing shove them in your face pop group. But at the same time, I consider ayumi different... she really isn't your everyday pop idol person anymore. It's like Madonna, Elton John, and all those other greats. Their sales really aren't there anymore, but they can still do it because of who they are. @Andrenekoi if you just want to talk about this year, with even less promo, then sure, her sales still show that more hype, promo means more sales. Xillia 1 had more hype around it then Xillia 2. its all in correlation. Xillia 2 sold less and LOVE sold less... its didn't help that there wasnt much on it either. And HBYR did rather well digital. You may not think so, but it did. Last edited by TeamAyu2004; 20th December 2012 at 05:33 PM. |

It is said you could see her on TV every night either by CM tie-ins, live performances or on the news... She was everywhere.^^
But being everywhere only works if people actually like you, and they did like Namie and Ayu at their peaks... |

plus ayu is also still featured on the front page of amazon.jp thanks to her kindle fire tie-in, it's been like 2 months now? that's a pretty big deal. Then there's cms too I know again's cm was played right before FNS began. To have your album cm playing right before a high profile show starts...can't get any better than that. |

Aren't the japanese obsessed with the i ~insert device here~ also, didnt sales pick up the day that CM was aired? |
