i'm a total ayu-ballad lover. there are like 2 ballads out of her whole discography that i don't like, and even those aren't so bad. they're what she does best imo

Of course we haven't even heard a clip yet but "You were..." sounds so painful. Maybe an emotionally charged ballad like H~II~? A rock ballad like Memorial Address ooooo... That'd be awesome too. I'm so excited for this release cause I love Ayu's ballads more than anything else she releases.

We are discussing the titles here, not the songs, and you can already imagine how the songs will be (3 ballads, wintery stuff etc.). It's Ayu we are talking of, obviously she may do something different and original this time and I will eat my words, but as of now, that's what I think. It's my opinion, as valid as any other, so if your fandom blinds you to say anything wrong about Ayu, go eat a cake, because I really don't give a damn. If you respect my opinion, I respect yours, which is as valid, but please, let's be neutral.

I'm judging Ayu right now taking from the most recent example of her artistry (and I do this with all artistes): Sunrise / Sunset, which in my opinion, is a horrid single. In the same way, I'm expecting Namie's new album to be awesome, since her last single was, imo.

But obviously that doesn't means that You were... / BALLAD can't happen to be the best thing ever and Namie's new album can be a total failure. Anything may happen.

And yes, I think that Ayu as a whole, has some of the best titles for both songs and albums that I've seen, and titles are really important at least for me, since they usually reflect the spirit of a song and are a key component in marketing. If you follow that formula of "oh, titles don't matter at all", then you should complain about people when they say "Oh, the contrast between Sunrise and Sunset sounds so good, it's an amazing title" right? But nooooo, because that's praising Ayu and obviously she can do no wrong.

Well, to me, RED LINE sounds like a very upbeat, non-ballade-y song... But ya never know. :\ Whatever. I'm actually a big fan of Ayumi's ballades, so I wouldn't mind. There are very few of her ballades that I don't like.

And by the way, ballade doesn't necessarily mean a dreadfully slow song, especially when talking about rock or pop ballades. ("Ballade" is just a form of music and poetry.) And Ayumi, of course, is pop, which is probably why a lot of her ballades actually aren't too slow. Of course, it's not tradition, especially these days, for ballades to be very upbeat, so meh... Just wanted to point that out.

If I were ever to judge that album based on it's track titles I would've never tried to listen to it. Sure a song titled BALLAD doesn't sound very creative, but an album with 3 songs that feature the word LOVE in their titles, a song that's titled Steal my night and a song about a FAST CAR don't sound very appealing to me xD So I am sorry, but I am kinda failing to see your poing? Sure the names might not be very creative, even though I only have a prob with BALLAD xD the names don't have to reflect the actual quality of the song.

this thread serves its purpose as amusement to me, as opposed to providing information on the new single. it'll probably be at like thread #5 before the covers are out at this rate.

i'm really excited to hear some previews of these songs. i wonder if they'll have any CM tie-ins so we'll get it sooner. amidst the title wars, i noticed someone said they hope BALLAD would be like JEWEL and i would welcome that with open arms. i really hope You were... will be something more powerful and emotional like HANABI, No way to say or momentum.

it was mentioned that these songs have a different sound, though? hopefully that will prove to be a positive thing.

umm yeah there is a 99.9% she will. but they shouldn't even be compared. namie is releasing a full album and ayu is releasing a single. why would anyone think of comparing the sales?
