If you will look closely into this and think - these releases have nothing to do with what Ayu writes and signs now, it's all based on the past - that was all released already, sometimes twice or three times... That is actually one of the reasons that I don't update my eneabba.net any more... It's now '1998-2010', I think I should've stopped in 2008...
I mean - it's all OK for the relatively new fans... But what I am supposed to do with my collection (since about 2000...)... throw VHS tapes to buy video CDs, then throw video CDs out to buy DVDs, then throw DVDs out to buy blu-rays, next throw blu-rays out to buy 3D discs. Be rest assured - by the time the 3D will be commonplace, they'll invent 'smellovision' (like in Futurama cartoon), then something else - just to make sure that the old stuff keeps getting re-issued...
Please, people, buy the stuff if you want to. But not me... I am sure I can afford the whole lot, with limited editions etc etc, but there has to be an end to this... So, nope, not me... fool me once - ok, fool me twice - I get suspicious, so there won't be a third time... just my personal opinion, naturally
Tom Punks is right. If you wanna blame anything, blame technology.

Besides, avex is not forcing anyone to buy these stuff. I'm a collector myself, owning almost all of ayu's singles, albums and remix discs, but I don't buy these collection thingies because I have no need for them. This gets to be a problem only when you force yourself to try to be the perfect collector with the absolute complete collection. Just ease up abit. If you think it's unnecessary, just pass it up and you'll be fine.

Times and formats change.
Of course, quality is getting better... But I would disagree - about milking for the money. Avex is known to do exactly that - like releasing 'A BEST' without any regard for Ayu objections that it is way too early for this (in case everyone has forgotten the fact).
And if releasing the same videos over and over again, in a new 'A COMPLETE' version (adding just a couple more vids) is not milking people for the money, I don't know what is...
The last point - sure, VHS quality is not as good as blu-ray. But, I am personally not interested to see an exact detail of a costume - the music is more important than video... at least for me...

^ Well, yeah, they've milked fans for money plenty of times before. And the DVD set isn't really necessary since everything has been released on DVD before. But the blu-ray set isn't at all unnecessary since the PVs have never been released in HD before. You may not be interested in seeing them in HD, but others apparently are. That doesn't mean you should have to buy it or feel pressured to. I'm definitely not buying it, lol.

yeah...avex is trying to get money from us, its their job. its ayu's job too. i don't know why people always use that as a bad thing. honestly, i'd rather be a fan of an artist like ayu who is always trying to get my money than a fan of an artist who only releases a single like every year or two.

It's call meeting the demands of the market.
If there's a demand for blu-ray version and avex ignores it then it is bad marketing for them. Even in AHS there's demand for blu ray versions of the PVs so I think there shd be a demanding market in japan too.
The only milking of fans money I would agree to is the different versions/covers of albums and singles. Because they could simply combine the versions and covers into the same disc and release but they choose to do so in versions.
The rest of the release I wouldnt agree so as mentioned above.

Are you still watching these videos on your computer? If so then yes, you wouldnt care much about higher quality videos. But IF you were to watch the VHS converted videos, VCD and even DVD quality on a HDTV 42" and above TV, you would certainly want better quality video with it. The lower versions just look aweful in it.

you know, i've noticed that too. every time i try watching a PV downloaded from AHS, even the super HQ ones, it always looks a little crappy on my TV. i can't wait to have them in real HD!

I rather spend tons of money on an artist whose company tries to milk fans and selectively buy what I want than someone who releases an album once all three years and just is lazy in the meantime. Hello Utada.

Let's not drag in other artists, yeah? That's when flame wars start~

I buy what I can, when I can. I only have three CD's of Ayu's work, but I treasure them.

I love Utada, if this starts to become a flame war it's not my fault xD

Anyways I think not releasing anything for an extended time is a way of being rude to fans imo. So I'm glad Ayumi releases lots of stuff, even if some is compilations and the likes, there's always something new or improved about it and it's never the ****** type of rerelease many American artists release with a video on DVD or a new remix.

I never felt like that changes anything about quality so I think it's often lazyness. Most of my favorite music is "rushed" and I myself always work best when I work quickly and under stress.

Not to start a debate about Utada or anything, but I really don't think she takes so long to release because she's taking her time to make things. She doesn't seem to spend a whole year or two continuously writing songs and improving on them to make them as good as possible. She seems like she writes some songs, releases them, does nothing for a long time, then writes some more songs. Not that I'm saying it's necessarily a bad thing for her to do, because there are positive sides to it, too. >_> I just don't think she really takes her time in that sense.

Just my opinion, anyways.
