I'm referring to the FIVE here - the 'ayumi hamasaki' font is quite nice.

I don't know about ~cheap paint job, but the typography definitely looks dated. I also don't think typography has ever been her either one of her design team's strong suit.

With that out of the way, I love the CD+DVD cover. It reminds me of her talkin' 2 myself single, which I think had two of her best covers. Can't wait to see the booklet.

What are examples of "good font" because all I ever hear for any cover (for any artists really) is how terrible the font is. I see nothing wrong with the font and that's not based on opinion, it's just ignorance of good vs. bad font. Could you post some examples?

Actually the font works very well on the cover. And it's understandable. As much as a font looks amazing it must be readable.

Pretty much anything that looks nice to people is "good" and anything that doesn't automatically register as "good" is "bad"... from my experience. Her most widely appealing cover designs, I think, came from 2002-2003 with the ayu-mi-x IV covers, RAINBOW, and RMX WORKS. They were all very pleasing to the eye and I don't think many people complain about their designs compared to other ones. I suppose it also depends on if people like/dislike the material on the CDs themselves or vice-versa since that tends to influence opinions. (Sunrise/Sunset and people disliking the songs because they don't like the covers...)

I've seen that Mika Nakashima's concept which usually include some kind of small serif font (it was changed recently?) and spaced out letters like M I K A N A K A S H I M A * T I T L E H E R E was received pretty well even though it was the same for every release.

I think a lot of people tend to like her textless covers more due to the fact that the text kinda just gets in the way on the covers?
